Each week we present a rundown of the UK box office chart headlines on this same week from last year to 1990.

A year ago (2019)

The number one film was Aladdin which had been at the top for 2 weeks.

The top new film of the week was Godzilla: King Of The Monsters directed by Michael Dougherty and starring Kyle Chandler and Vera Farmiga which entered the box office at number 2.

The longerst run on the box office and the top total grossing film was Avengers: Endgame which had taken £87 Million over 6 weeks of release.

The Invisible Man

First up at cinemas this week is The Invisible Man, a movie directed by Leigh Whannell who also directed Insidious Chapter 3 in 2015 which grossed £3.9 Million in the UK.

It stars Elisabeth Moss who last starred in Shirley (2020).

The film also stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen who last appeared in The Healer (2017).

Dark Waters

Next on this weeks new release schedule is Dark Waters.

This new movie stars Mark Ruffalo who's last film was Avengers: Endgame (2019)

It also stars Anne Hathaway who appeared in The Hustle (2019).

The film is brought to us by Todd Haynes.

Wendy

Next up this week is Wendy which is directed by Benh Zeitlin who directed Beasts Of The Southern Wild in 2012.

It stars Yashua Mack and Devin France.

True History Of The Kelly Gang

Also this week there is True History Of The Kelly Gang from director Justin Kurzel who also directed The Assassin in 2016.

The film features George MacKay and Essie Davis in starring roles.

Downhill

The long list of new releases continues with Downhill which is directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash directing together.

It stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus'>Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell.

Color Out Of Space

Finally there is Color Out Of Space from director Richard Stanley who also directed Hardware in 1990, the film stars Nicolas Cage and Joely Richardson.

In the US this week Captain America: Civil War stayed put at the top for a second weekend although with quite a large drop, expected though with such a massive opening.

The Marvel Avengers film took $76.6 million from the weekend which took its total US gross to $295 million after 2 weekends of play.

With The Jungle Book holding fast again at number 2 the highest new film dropped into 3rd place, Money Monster from director Jody Foster.

The Film starring Julia Roberts and George Clooney took $15 million over the weekend, the film is a hard sell despite the stars and could sink fast.

Top total grossing film in the US this week, and possibly on its last week is Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice which has grossed $328.2 million.

This weeks top 3 is unchanged from last week meaning that the true story of an expedition to the summit of Everest is still the number one film.

It was a quiet weekend with Everest only taking £1.9 million during it's second weekend of release, this brings it's total gross after 10 days to £6.8 million.

The static top 3 means the highest new film of the week comes in at 4, Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette star the the romantic comedy Miss You Already.

Surprisingly positive reviews haven't helped the film that much and the film debuts with only £487,247.

By far the biggest total grossing film on the box office this week is Minions which just about hangs onto the top 15 and has grossed to date £46.3 million, its still not reached Despicable Me's total gross of £47 million but its not far behind.

There should be a big change in next weeks chart with Ridley Scotts The Martian opening, Robert De Niro in The Intern and a new adaptation of Macbeth with Michael Fassbender.
