The British Board Of Film Certification has released its 2019 annual report which among other many other things talks about the movies which has the most complaints about their certificates.

Here is the top 5 films which got the most complains, its interesting to see that in the UK most complaints are based around violence in movies.

Joker~2019

The Todd Phillips directed critically praised movie starring Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role which also won him the best actor Oscar got 20 complaints.

The movie was given a 15 certificate and according to the BBFC most of the commnets were for the violence and tone, with a small number of people asking for the movie to be banned outright.

The Favourite

The Favourite

Another critical darling and Oscar winning movie most notably for Olivia Colman in the lead role and was given a 15 age rating.

The movie got 12 complaints mainly for the strong language and sex references and acts, although as the BBFC notes most of this is done in a comic association.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

Given a 15 certificate the Keanu Reeves movie is a full on tour de force and the 9 complains were about the level of the blood violence.

Interesting the BBFC notes 'Our research shows that violence that is perceived to be 'real' registers more strongly with viewers than violence that is clearly stylised or fantastical.'

Alita: Battle Angel

Robert Rodriguez directed this critically acclaimed comic book adaptation which was given a 12A age rating on release, the movie got 5 complaints for its strong language and violence.

Fighting with My Family

The British made movie which starred Dwayne Johnsson and was directed by Stephen Merchant for 5 complaints about the movies language and sex references.

Interesting notes

Of interest is the Transformers spin off movie Bumblebee which was submitted to the BBFC in 2 different edits, one was passed 12A and the other PG, only the PG version was shown in cinemas and the film still got 4 complaints about the violence although its purely fantastical robots that are creating the violence and no humans are ever involved.

The report is a fascinating read and can be downloaded here.

Captain Marvel was without much surprise the big film of the weekend taking the world by storm as it launched with a lot of hype and anticipation for the female led Marvel film.

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Captain Marvel

The 21st Marvel Cinematic Universe film tops the global box office with ease this weekend with a global box office of $455 million including previews from 54 countries.

A fantastic start for the super hero movie which stars the ever green Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson that should see it past the $1 billion mark which would make it the 7th Marvel film to do so.

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

The third dragon movie falls to 2 this week with a weekend gross of $36.6 million from 66 countries to boost its total to $435 million.

Green Book

The Oscar winning film starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali moves up to 3 this week with $30 million from 67 countries pushing its global gross to $242 million.

Alita: Battle Angel

Falling to number 4 this week is the Battle Manga movie directed by Robert Rodriguez which takes $14.7 million from 75 countries, the highest on the top 5, to boost its total global cume to $385 million.

A Madea Family Funeral

Tyler Perry's creation which he also stars and directs is at 5 this week with $12.1 million from 5 countries to bring its cume to $46.1 million.

The hype around Captain Marvel has been intense and there was little doubt this weekend that the first female led Marvel stand alone movie would do massive business at the US box office.

How To Train Your Dragon: THe Hidden World

Captain Marvel

The new marvel movie starring Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson trampled all in its path on the US box office with a magnificent $153 million opening from a record breaking 4,310 screens.

In America this is the third biggest March opening with only the live action Beauty and the Beast and Batman V Superman Dawn Of Justice doing better.

The road ahead looks good for the Marvel superhero and the $1 billion mark looks a sure thing.

How To Train Your Dragon: THe Hidden World

Understandably falling from the top spot in the light of major competition the threequel dragon movie took $14.6 million over the weekend.

This brings the films total US gross to a very good $119.6 million.

A Madea Family Funeral

Tyler Perry's Madea movie falls to 3 this week with $12.05 million which pushes the films total gross after 2 weeks of release to $45.8 million.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

The sequel brick movie falls to 4 this week with $3.8 million to bring its total to $97.1 million.

The animation should pass the $100 million mark but it is well below the originals $257 million US gross.

Alita: Battle Angel

Still in the top 5 is the Battle Manga movie which this week pulls in $3.2 million for a $78.3 million total gross.

How To Train Your dragon 3 holds onto the top spot for a second weekend in the US while the ever popular Tyler Perry brings his Mesea in at number 2.

A Madea Family Fineral

How To train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

After entering the box office at the top last week the Dragon sequel remains there for a second weekend taking $30 million.

This pushes the films total US gross to just under $100 million after 10 days of release.

A Madea Family Funeral

Tyler Perry continues his series of films starring his creation Mesea in this comedy which takes $27 million on its debut at number 2.

Alita: Battle Angel

The Manga live action movie continues to do well in the US as it sits at 3 this week taking $7 million which pushes its total gross to $72 million.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

The brick movie is at 4 this week taking $6.6 million which pushes its total US gross to $91 million.

The original movie took $257 million in the US and this sequel will come in far below this with it looking at the moment like it will struggle past $100 million.

Green Book

Finally in the top 5 is the Best Film Oscar winner which sees a boost in its weekend takings post ceremony and takes $4.7 million this weekend pushing its total to $75 million.

Fighting With My Family

Director Stephen Merchants debut film at director lands at number 6 this week with a gross of $4.69 million.
