War Horse: NT Live 2014

Coming out of nowhere and making a re-entry at number 4 is the cinema version of the original stage show of War Horse from 2014, Steven Spielberg directed the actual movie version of the book in 2012.

The event movie takes £2,918 over the weekend pushing its total gross since release to £2.72 Million.

Its worth noting that this is by far the highest position on the chart the movie has been.

Two By Two: Overboard!

Finally falling to number 5 this weekend is the surprise hit animated tale which this week takes £2,724, up 13% from last weekend, for a total gross of £990,229 after 4 weeks of release.

With no stability to cinema openings in the US yet the box office is still thin on the ground for big new releases and this week a low budget movie starring Vince Vaughn hits the top on its debut.

Freaky makes its debut at the top knocking Kevin Costner down to number 2, and that about it for this weeks US box office, there is a new re-entry for Marvels Guardians Of The Galaxy at number 7 and Christmas favourite Elf make a re-entry at number 10.

There is actually more excitement outside the top 10 as Come Away with Angelina Jolie is new at 12, Fatman with Mel Gibson is new at 13, cycling drama The Climb is new at 14 and finally Ammonite featuring Kate Winslet is new at 15.

Here is the top 15 Quickview.

  • Number 1 - Freaky (1st Week)

Freaky

Starring Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn this 'playing for laughs' body swap serial killer movie lands at the top of the US box office with $3.71 Million.

During this time of COVID-19 this seems to be a fairly standard opening gross with the last few number one debuts, Let Him Go, Come Play and Honest Thief, all taking similar figures.

Let Him Go

Let Him Go

The Dianne Lane and Kevin Coster starring movie falls from the top to number 2 this weekend with $1.8 Million, a 55% drop from its debut last weekend.

This puts the Thomas Bezucha directed movies total gross at $6.88 Million after 2 weeks of release.

The War With Grandpa

Perhaps this Tim Hill directed movie can be seen as the surprise hit of late 2020 as the movie stays firm at number 3 with $1.32 Million, only a 12% drop from last weekend.

The Robert De Niro movie has now spent 6 weeks on the box office and has grossed $15.22 Million.

Come Play

The Jacob Chase directed horror movie is slipping down the chart and this week is at 4 with $1.1 Million, 39% down from last weekend.

Three weeks in and the movie has taken $7.31 Million, and perhaps its last week on the top 5.

Honest Thief

Still hanging on to its top 5 position, at 5, the Liam Neeson starring thriller takes $800,000 this weekend down 30% from last weekend, the movies new total gross is $12.38 Million after 5 weeks.

The good news is we got a box office chart this weekend, the bad news is only due to the lockdown effecting most of the UK only 22 cinemas were open and the top movie took most of its weekend gross from the previous weekend!

Documentary feature The Three Kings was the top movie of the weekend, it knocked off Two By Two: Overboard! to number 3, but the whole top 15 took just over £19,00.

Outside the top 5, sequel movie A Christmas Gift From Bob made its debut at 9 with £757.

Here is this weeks top 15 Quickview

  • Number 1 - The Three Kings (1st week)
  • Highest debut - The Three Kings (@1)
  • Longest run - Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite! (6 weeks)*
  • Highest total gross - Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite! (£1,375,548)*
  • *Not including re-releases

Here is a breakdown of the top 5 movies on the UK box office 6th - 8th November 2020

The Three Kings

The documentary feature from Jonny Owen makes its debut at number 1 with a weekend gross of £3,521, altohugh £3,470 was from preview screenings meaning it took £51 over the weekend which would have given Honest Thief the top position.

The film is about 3 of the greatest Scottish footballer managers of all time, and with most, if not all, cinemas in the UK allowed to open are in Scotland during the lockdown this is perhaps no surprise.

This is a number 1 due to extreme and unique circumstances, congratulations to Jonny Owen and the film makers for the number 1 but I suspect the movie will disappear next weekend.

Honest Thief

Jumping back up to number 2 is the Liam Neeson vehicle which takes £2,922 over the weekend, 98% down from last weekend which gives the movie a £651,408 total after 3 weeks.

Two By Two: Overboard!

Falling from the top to number 3 is the animated movies about animals on the ark which takes £2,374 over the weekend, 99% down from last weekend.

The animated feature has had a great box office run in the COVID-19 era and has not taken just under a million pound over 3 weeks.

Words On Bathroom Walls

Words On Bathroom Walls

The Secret Garden~2020

Adapted from the children's novel and starring starring Julie Walters, Colin Firth the movie drops to number 5 this weekend with £1,709, a 99% drop, which gives the movie a total gross of £664,051.

This weekend at the US box office Let Him Go hit the top of the US box office on its debut weekend of release pushing last weeks top movie to number 2.

It was a quiet weekend on the box office as cinemas continue to open, then close, then open again in the ever changing circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

Inside the top 15 the original Toy Story was also a new release at number 6 and The Dark And The Wicked made its debut at number 11.

Come Play

The Jacob Chase made its debut at the top of the box office last weekend but falls to number 2 this weekend with $1.73 Million, down 45% from last weekend.

Post halloween this drop would have been expected but it does push the movies total gross to $5.66 Million after 2 weeks of release.
