Despite competition from the British beloved comedy that is Ab Fab, The Life of Pets remains at the top of the UK box office for a second weekend.

In its second weekend The Life of Pets takes a gross of £4.7 million, this brings the films total gross to an very good £16.6 million after 2 weeks, the films weekly gross is over £7 million.

Highest new entry of the week in Absolutely Fabulous The Move which makes its debut at number 2, a weekend gross of £4.02 million.

The film version of the British comedy comes nearly 25 years after the TV series started on BBC and amazingly it still has all the original cast including leads Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders.

A good run should be in order for the film although as is often the case with TV to movie adaptation it will probably spend a lot of time in cinemas but out of the charts.

Also new this week is Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in Central Intelligence which is new at 3.

Highest total grossing and longest running movie on the box office this week once again is The Jungle Book which over 12 weeks has grossed £47 million.

The UK box office this weeks has a new number one film in the shape of The Secret Life of Pets. the latests film from the makers of Despicable Me and Minions.

An excellent weekend gross of £9.5 million sees the film enter ahead of the weeks other big film Independence Day Resurgence.

With the summer holidays in the coming weeks this could have staying power, and there is little competition until mid July.

Also new this week is Independence Day Resurgence which makes its debut at number 2 with just over £5 million, its been 20 years but the original debuted to £16 million.

Tivo have announced that they are releasing what they call the Next Generation of PVR to market later this year in the US and UK, but unlike last time the PVR giants tried the UK market and got crushed by Sky they are joining forces with Virgin Media.

What the fuss about Next Generation all boils down to is that the new boxes will be more user centric and be able to not only show broadcast programmes on standard TV channels but also show internet based video from the likes of YouTube and iPlayer.

Making this even more powerful is the ability to use one search for all the internet channels and broadcast channels, so you could search for Eastenders and it would not only return results for iPlayed but any other outlet broadcasting Eastenders related material.

Tivo are also claiming that it will learn while you watch and start suggesting what programmes you may like based on what you have watched in the past, this is also a continual learning process.

The new boxes will be higher specked than the current boxes with larger hard drives and wireless internet connections that will be able to broadcast in full 1080p.

I'm not sure this is the future of PVR's or simply an natural evolution but it's good to see Tivo trying the UK market again even if it is through Virgin Media.

Check out more information on the Tivo website.

Good on Danny Boyle and the crew behind the British/Indian film Slumdog Millionaire for doing so well at the American Golden Globe awards on Sunday night, the film took four awards including best film and best director in the drama category.

Kate Winslet also did very well taking both best actress and supporting actress in a dramatic role for Revolution Road and The Reader.

The night threw up many surprises but one surprise which wasn't had, and the fans will love was Heath Ledgers win for The Dark Knight in the supporting role, the late actor has one more film to be released and from early reports he could still have another award to come.

The Oscars are in a couple of months time with the nominations being announced next month, but although in recent years the Golden Globes haven't been such a huge indication of the Oscars, Danny Boyle and Kate Winslet must be getting the frock and suit ready for the biggest glitzy night of the year.

For a full list of winners check out the Empire story.
