12th September 2016

As we approach the end of the year all the Spring hits start to get released ready for Christmas and so this week has the release of Captain America Civil War hit the top on its debut.

The film was released into UK cinemas on 4th May 2016 where it easily hit the top of the box offie on its debut with a £14.4 million opening weekend, the 25th highest in the UK.

After an excellent 3 week run at the top the film started dropping, but it dropped hard and had a 7 week box office run in total.

During that time the film managed an excellent £36.7 million in total grosses making it the 60th top grossing film in the UK.

Globally, as is the norm with Marvel films, Civil War too £1.1 billion and is the 12th top grossing movie across the world.

The jungle Book falls after a couple of weeks at the top to number 2 this week but is still selling well.

Other new film this week are Florence Foster Jenkins at number 3, Thomas and Friends The Great Race at number 4 and further down Bruce Willis in Precious Cargo at 12.

16th August 2016

On the US box office charts this week the bad guys of Suicide Squad managed to stay at the top despite competition from Disneys Petes Dragon and Sausage Party.

Proving to be a success for the DC Cinema Universe (and Warner Bros.) the super anti-hero film takes $43.7 million on its second weekend of release, down nearly 75% from its debut.

The film has now taken $222 million in 10 days and is on course to be one of the bigger film of the year.

Entering the chart highest, and in second place, is the Seth Rogans voiced Sausage Party, an adult animation which also starts the voices of Kristen Wiig and Jonah Hill.

With a debut of $34 million its not quite Disney but for an R rated cartoon its a very good debut.

Talking of Disney they unleashed their 2016 remake/retelling of Petes Dragon this week and it perhaps hasn't quite done the numbers expected.

Landing at number 3 the film takes $21 million, considering the talent involved and the advertising a higher debut would have been expected.

Florence Foster Jenkins starring Meryl Street is also new at 8.

10th May 2016

Last week Captain America kick started the summer box office in the UK, and this weekend the sun actually showed its face making people forget about the cinema for the weekend.

With the sun shining the box office saw a massive drop in taking and Captain America: Civil War war a 60%+ drop in taking to £4.06 million.

This brings the films total takings to £27.3 million on its second weekend of release, although this is still better than the previous 2 film at the same point in their release.

Highest new film of the week is Bad Neighbours 2 at number 3 which debuts with £1.69 million.

With the sun out this is way lower than the original 2014 film which scored an £8 million plus opening.

Also new this week are Florence Foster Jenkins at number 4, Robinson Crusoe at number 5 and 24 at number 10.
