7th May 2019

The second weekend of Avengers: Endgame and the film is still pulling in audiences and takes a lion share of the box office takings for the weekend, Long Shot comes in second but takes less than a £1 million on its debut.

Long Shot

Avengers: Endgame

The Marvel mega smash manages to pull in a mammoth £14.3 million at the UK box office on its second weekend of release, and although massive is just under the second weekend of Skyfall from 2012 which took £16.1 million.

With 2 massive weekends the film should start to slow next week, although Marvel/Disney have not slowed on the marketing and repeat visits could happen in the coming weeks.

The film will take over £100 million at the UK box office potentially beating Skyfall, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens £123 million might be a big ask.

Still the film has taken £69.3 million so far and will end up as the top film of 2019, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker might take more but with a release date of December 19th the total gross will be split between 2 different years (2019 and 2020).

Long Shot

Avengers: Endgame was the only film to take over a million pound at the UK box office this week but the new film from director Jonathan Levine starring Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen makes its debut at number 2.

The romantic comedy takes £856,333 on its debut weekend.

The Curse Of La Llorona

Coming in at number 3 this week is the latest film from The Conjuring universe which enters the box office with a £609,555, one of the lowest of the horror franchise.

The film is Directed by Michael Chaves and stars Linda Cardellini who also appears in Avengers: Endgame and Roman Christou.

Tolkien

The bio-pic of The Lord Of The Rings series of books didn't go down too well with critics and enters the box office at number 4 this week with £550,348.

A Dogs Journey

Films based on our pets have done well in recent year and this film directed by Gail Mancuso enters the box offie at 5 with a half million pound opening.

Captain Marvel

The Marvel predecessor to Endgame is at 9 this week and has spent 9 weeks on the box office with a total gross of £39.2 million.

7th May 2019

As expected with such a massive debut weekend Avengers: Endgame remains at the top of the US box office for a second weekend with thriller The Intruder entering the chart at number 2.

The Intruder

Avengers: Endgame

Taking a mammoth $145.8 million on its second weekend of release the Marvel film continues to reign above all else in its path, the films US gross is now $619.7 million and the 8th top grossing film ever.

The drop from last week record breaking openieng was significant but similar to other films on its genre and the films posted the second highest second weekend gross after Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

THe film has a fight on its hands to beat the Star Wars movie but its possible, it will definitely become at least the second highest grossing film in the US ever.

The Intruder

This thriller starring Meagan Good and Dennis Quaid enters the box office at number 2 on its debut weekend taking $11 million dollars.

It had no chance agains the might of The Avengers but has dome well to be the highest new film of the week against stiff competition.

Long Shot

The political comedy starring Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen enters the box office at number 3 this week with a debut gross of $10 million.

Perhaps a little disappointing really as the film would have been a good bet to be the biggest new film of the week but audiences perhaps preferring a good thrill instead.

Uglydolls

Animated comedies always do well at the box office and this is no exception as it enters at number 4 with a weekend gross of $8.5 million.

Captain Marvel

The Avengers studio mate falls from 2 to number 5 this week in the aftermath of Endgames record breaking weekend which saw a boost in this films takings.

The films takings this week are $4.3 million boosting its total gross to $420.7 million, the film is the 23rd highest grossing film ever in the US.

The film does take the honor of longest run on the US box office this week with 9 weeks of release, and still in the top 5, not bad!

31st October 2017

Two big franchises chose this weekend to release their latest episodes and despite Jigsaw which is part of the Saw series doing well Thor: Ragnarok was the clear winner.

The Disney Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a mammoth series of films that simply cant be matched at the moment and the all star Avengers cars in Thor 3 (try saying that fast) debuts with an incredible £12.3 million making it the 47th top opening in the UK ever.

The film which stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor and is directed by exciting newcomer Taika Waititi joins the ever increasing lineup of Marvel movies and the ever increasing gross for Disney.

The future for the film looks good and, this is nearly double the opening of Thor: The Dark World which went on to gross £20 million so we could have a £35 - 40 million total UK gross.

New in the runner up position is the latest Saw film, this time by the name go Jigsaw, its actually the 8th Saw movie, and opens with £1.8 million.

This is a bit of a low for the series as the average opening for a Saw movie is about £2 - 3 million, but with Halloween this week it will see a boost, but then a big slump after, it could get to £5 million in total.

After a jump back to the top Blade Runner 2049 falls to number 5 with week with £0.6 million over the weekend, after 4 weeks of release this brings the films total to £17.4 million.

Also new this weekend was Breathe, a directorial debut from Andy Serkis starring former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield, it enters at number 8.

With Despicable Me 3 making a reappearance on the UK box office it is once again the longest running film with 17 weeks and the highest total grossing movie with £47.5 million .

Tom Cruise launches his latest vehicle this weekend in the US but it is no match for the mammoth Wonder Woman which spends a second weekend at the top.

Tom Cruise spent the early part of his career avoiding franchise films but since starring and producing the Mission:Impossible series of film he has become more seduced by the idea.

With Another Jack Reacher film released earlier this year and another Top Gun film promised Cruise here starts with The Mummy which promises to kick off a Dark Universe franchise.

The Mummy kicks off its US box office run with a number 2 debut and $32.2 million, really not the sort of business Universal were expecting, add to that bad reviews and Cruise may start worrying.

Wonder Woman holds onto the top spot this week with a $57.1 million second weekend, easily beating The Mummy, this brings the films total gross to $205 million.

Also new this week is It Comes At Night, $6 million and number 6 and Megan Leavey, new at 8 with $3.7 million.
