20th November 2018

UK audiences were spellbound by the Fantastic Beasts sequel this week, but is the love for the Wizarding World starting to wane a bit?

The Grinch

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald

This weeks top movie in the UK took an excellent £12.3 million at the UK box office on its debut and although this makes it the 54th top opening film in the UK its £3 million lower than Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

Its only natural that after nearly 20 years of magical films audiences have seen it all before and don't rush to the cinema to see new films from the Wizarding World.

As we have seen this year with Star Wars movies and in the past with film series like The Hobbit even die hard fans can get too much of a good thing and will wait to see a movie.

The Grinch

Making its debut at the top last week the animated retelling of the Dr. Seuss story falls to 2 this week with a £3.9 million weekend pushing its total to £10 million.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Still wowing audiences in the UK is the Queen bio-pic which after 4 weeks of release still manages a £3 million weekend which brings the films total UK gross to £34.8 million.

The film is now the 8th top film of 2018 and the 90th top grossing film ever in the UK.

Widows

The Steve McQueen directed movie is at number 4 this weeks with a weekend gross of £882,243 which brings the films total takings to £4.3 million.

A Star Is Born

There has been no stopping this Bradley Cooper directed film in the UK as the film has a 7th weekend in the top 5 with £0.7 million which brings the films total to £27 million.

19th November 2018

With the release of a new film from JK Rowlings Wizarding World there was no doubt it would dominate the world on its debut, but worrying for Warner Bros. it is the lowest opening for a film from the fantasy world.

Instant Family

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald

Opening into a very wide 80 countries the latest film from the author and universe that brought us Harry Potter takes $253.2 million on its debut week.

Despite the strong opening across the world this was still lower that the first Fantastic Beasts film and the lowest of any film from the Harry Potter Wizarding World.

Bohemian Rhapsody

The Freddy Mercury film continues to do well across the globe and this week sits at number 2 with $61 million taken from 79 countries.

Venom

The Sony villain movie is still getting a boost from its second wind since its release in China and this week falls to 3 with $57 million from 66 countries.

The Grinch

The Dr Seuss film is doing well in the US and UK which is keeping the film at number 4 this week with $47.5 million taken from just 24 countries.

Widows

The Steve McQueen directed movie gets a boost from its North American release and enters the top 5 with a weekly gross of $15 million from 20 countries.

Instant Family

Just missing out on a place in the top 5 this week is Mark Wahlberg's latest film which still manages to enter the global box office at 6 with $14.7 million from a single country.

14th November 2018

We're fast approaching the Christmas period and despite it still only being early in December the UK public are clearly in the mood as they take The Grinch to the top of the box office on its debut weekend.

Widows

The Grinch

Taking the box office on its debut weekend with a gross of £5.09 million the Dr Seuss favourite only just beat out last weeks top film Bohemian Rhapsody

The last time The Grinch appeared on the box office was back in 2000 in the shape of Jim Carey in a live action version directed by Ron Howard which took £3 million on its debut weekend which is about £5.2 million when adjusted for inflation.

Both films have hence sold in the same ball park as far as tickets are concerned, time will tell is this new animated version will out gross the 2000 film.

Bohemian Rhapsody

After a very successful couple of weeks at the top of the box office the Queen bio-pic falls to number 2 with a weekend gross of £4.5 million, not far behind The Grinch.

This boosts the films total Uk gross to £28.9 million and its the 10th best film of the year to date.

Widows

Acclaimed director Steve McQueen brings his latest movie which lands at 3 on its debut weekend with a gross of £2.4 million.

The film starring Viola Davis and Liam Neeson is getting a lot of positive buzz and Oscar talk to expect it to hang around until the new year and awards season.

A Star Is Born

The Bradley Cooper film is starting to fall down the chart after a very successful run and this week is at 4 with £1.2 million boosing its total to £25.4 million.

The Nutcracker And The Four Realms

Finishing off the top 5 this week is last weeks highest new film which falls hard in its second weekend, the Diney film takes £1.1 million for a £3.14 million total.

20th June 2017

At the US box office this weekend Pixar released its latest offering Cars 3 and although it took the top spot is was a relatively low opening for the animation studio at $53.5 million.

For a Cars film it was lower than either Cars or Cars 2, for a Pixar movie it was lower than all their films but Ratatouille.

Lightning McQueen and the gang have never been one of Pixars popular characters despite this being the third film and they have a themed area at Disneys California Adventure. so clearly someone at Pixar likes them.

Wonder Woman slips to second place on its third week of release, although it is still performing well with a $40.7 million weekend.

The total US gross of the film now sits at $274 million and will easily get to $300 million and has $400 million in its sights.

Also new this week is All Eyez On Me at number 3 with $27 million and 47 Meters Down at number 5 with $11.5 million, Rough Night also makes a new entry at number 7, the film had high hopes.

Longest running film and highest grossing film this week is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, 7 weeks and $374 million.

10th May 2017

New trailer for Cars 3 sees more story revealed, Lightning McQueen is old and slow, Jackson Storm is young and fast.

What does McQueen do? What else but enlist his old friends to help him train.
