At the US box office this week the third of the Maze Runner films, Maze Runner: The Death Cure makes a convincing debut at the top.

With a gross of $23.5 million for its debut weekend it is the lowest of the series, but interest has waned big time for the dystopian teen dramas and this is coming 18 months too late, a swift exit from the charts could happen.

Holding up well at number 2 is Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle which has far outstripped expectation and has taken $338 million in the US.

Hostiles comes in as a new entry at number 3, the critically praised film starring Christian Bale takes $10.2 million.

Rounding out the top 5 is The Greatest Showman at number 4 and The Post at number 5.

This week the top global box office number one is the sequel film Maze Runner The Scorch trials which tops the chart after stalling along the way at number 4 last week.

This week the Maze Runner sequel takes $73.6 million from 67 territories and has to date made over $100 million in total.

After hitting the top for the second time last week Mission:Impossible Rogue Nation falls to number 5 with $23.4 million from 58 countries, the global gross is $656 million.

The Minions continue to do well across the world and this week sit at number 4 with an incredible $118 billion total gross.

This has another change at the top of the UK video chart with Dracula Untold being the biggest selling film on its debut week of release.

Dracula Untold was released at the UK box office on 3rd October of 2014 and entered at number 2 that week with a debut weekend gross of £1.7 million.

The film was a relatively small hit and hung around the chart for 4 weeks raking in a total gross of £4.7 million during that time.

New at number 2 this week is The Maze Runner which was a bigger hit at the box office than Dracula Untold, released on the 10th October 2014 it's total gross was £8.6 million over 6 weeks.

Also new this week is The Best of Me at number 5.

Worthy of a mention this week, this is the first week since it's video release that Disney's frozen has not featured on the video chart top 20, it's at number 31.

This weeks US box office has The Equalizer topping on it's debut week of release and has Denzel Washington continue his run of box office hits.

Based on the 80's TV show of the same name, the Antoine Fuqua directed film tops the box office on it's debut weekend of release with a gross of $35 million.

Falling to number two this week is The Maze Runner which on it;s second week of release takes $17.5 million takings it's total gross after 10 days to $58 million.

Also new on the US box office this week is The Boxtrolls which enters at 3 with a gross of $17.2 million.

22nd September 2014

In the US this week teen survival film The Maze Runner becomes the top grossing film of the week on it's debut weekend.

It took $32,500,000 this weekend and regenerated a fairly stagnant US box office of recent weeks which has struggled to generate any big numbers.

This is the first in a series of books and a release date of September 18th 2015 has already been given for the sequel Scorch Trials.
