Following on from its stablemate The Lego Movie from 3 years ago The Lego Batman Movie enters the UK box office at the top beating out Fifty Shades Darker in the process.

The Lego Movie opened this same weekend in 2014 to just over £8 million and The Lego Batman Movie has almost done exactly the same with opening to just under £8 million.

The Lego Movie went on to be the top grossing movie of 2014 with £37 million, time will tell with The Lego Batman Movie, this are looking good but we have a number of big franchise movies coming this year which could get in its way.

Fifty Shades of Grey opened in 2015 to £13.5 million over a valentines weekend, this week Fifty Shades Darker opens to £7 million at number 2, but not a valentines weekend, next week will be a tell time for the movie.

Sing falls down to number 3 this week with £2.3 million which brings the films total gross in the UK to £18 million.

Highest total grossing movie on the box office this week is La La Land which has now taken £26.4 million while the longest running film is Trolls which re-enters the chart and spends its 14th week in total.

Now released in 12 countries the film takes $51.4 million for the week which brings the films total gross to $178 million.

With Chinese films dominating the top 3 Split is sitting pretty at number 4 this week and highest new film of the week is Rings at number 5.

Released in 32 countries the latest film from the Ring franchise tajes $28.2 million from its debut weekend which is split almost half and half with America and the rest of the world.

Highest total grossing movie on the global top 10 is Sing which has now made a total global gross of $487 million.

7th February 2017

M. Night Shyamalan must be pleased to be back in favour again, a fantastic start to his career and apart from a couple of bad moments hes had a critic bashed run of films until now.

Split spends its third consecutive weekend at the top of the US box office although hit was the Super Bowl weekend which means Sunday had little to no impact on the box office.

This weekend the film took $14.6 million which brings its total gross to $98.7 million, it will reach $100 million before next weekend.

Highest new film of the weekend is the reboot of the gone stale Rings franchise, the last film was The Ring Two released in 2005.

The new take brings the film up to date and takes $13 million on its opening weekend of release, 14 years after The Ring this is a lower opening gross which doesnt bode well for the film.

Highest total grossing film on the US top 10 this week is Sing, at number 7 this week with $262 million in total gross.

2nd February 2017

Making its debut on the UK box office this week is Sing which lands at the top knocking off La La Land, and in a surprise move keeps of T2 Trainspotting.

Sing is an animated feature from the same stable as Despicable Me and features the voice talent from the likes of Matthew McConaughey and Reece Witherspoon.

The film makes its debut with a rather spectacular £10.4 million debut weekend which makes it the 66 top opening of all time.

Sing replaces La La Land which falls to number 3 this week with a £3.1 million 3rd weekend and a £20.9 million total UK gross.

Missing out on the top spot is the highly anticipated T2 Trainspotting which lands at number 2, the film is an 18 rating so the audience compared to Sing is limited, but £5.1 million is good and any other week would have easily seen the film enter at the top.

Also new this week is Hacksaw Ridge from director Mel Gibson at number 5 with £1.4 million and Rahm at number 7 with £521,000.

Highest total grossing film on the UK box office this week is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which after 7 weeks has grossed £65.2 million while the longest running film is Trolls with 13 weeks.
