Avengers: Endgame was always going to open big, and on its 4 day opening weekend, including Thursday previews, the film gains the top opening weekend in the UK beating Spectre who gained it in 2015.

The latest Marvel movie, and end of this phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, took a gigantic £43.4 million on its debut weeekend.

Spectre in 2015 took the title with a 7 day opening, Monday - Sunday, so this is actually more impressive.

The film opened higher than expectation and we will be watching over the coming weeks to see if the film continues to gross well and beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens £123 million total gross, the highest in the UK.

Dumbo

Tim Burtons live action remake continues to do well at the UK box office and remains at number 2 this week with £1.02 Million.

This pushes the films total UK gross to £23.3 million after 5 weeks of release, comparatively the film is doing better in the UK than many other countries.

Wonder Park

The animated film climbs from 7 back to number 3 on its 3rd weekend of release with a £454,366 weekend, pushing its total to £3.8 million.

Red Joan

The Judi Dench starring film also climbs this week to number 4 with a weekend of £420,629 which now puts its total gross at £1.5 million.

Shazam!

The DC Captain Marvel falls from the top to number 5 this week with the Marvel film giving people their super hero fix.

The film takes £398,317 on its 4th weekend and it sits at £12.8 million in total grosses.

There was a thought that the other Marvel super hero film on release at the moment would get a boost from Avengers: Endgame but in reality the film falls to 6 on its 8th week of release, its total gross is £38.8 million.

Praised by critics this coming of age drama from director Bo Burnham lands on the box office at number 10 with £144,923, it did go up agains Avengers: Endgame!

Jordan Peele's much praised horror movie Us tops the US box office on its debut weekend knocking Captain Marvel down to number 2 after just 2 weeks of release.

After the success of Get Out Jordan Peele's next film was going to be big and this much praised horror film tops the US box office with a debut weekend of $70.5 million.

This marks the best opening for a horror movie, and the best opening for a new movie IP, ie non sequel, since Avatar 10 years ago, the could go on to big numbers after the positive reviews.

The Marvel super hero movie falls to number 2 after 2 weeks at the top with a gross of $35 million.

This puts the films three week gross at $321.5 million.

Wonder Park

The animated feature about an imaginary theme part falls to number 3 this week with $9 million.

The films total US gross rises to $29.4 million.

Five Feet Apart

The romantic drama falls to 4 this week with $8.7 million pushing the films total gross to $26.4 million.

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Finally in the top 5 the is third dragon movie which takes $6.5 million pushing its total gross to $145.7 million.

Us was the big release of the week but it wasn't strong enough to topple Captain Marvel from having a three week run at the top.

Sticking to the top of the global box office for a third weekend is the latest Marvel movie which this week takes $87.1 million from 55 countries.

This brings the films total global gross to $910 million and will reach the billion mark potentially by next weekend.

Highest new entry of the week is Jordan Peele's much praised genre re-defining horror which was very close to knocking Captain Marvel from the top with $87 million from 48 countries.

This marks one of the highest debut grosses from a horror film.

The Chinese romance this week is at 3 with a weekend gross of $30 million from just 6 countries.

This brings the films total global gross to $136.6 million.

Five Feet Apart

At number 4 is the romantic drama starring Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse which takes $15 million over the weekend from 38 countries.

This pushes the films total gross across the world to $32.7 million.

Finally in the top 5 is the animated comedy which takes $14 million from 25 countries bringing its total global gross to $40 million.

Also new this week is this drama from director Justin Baldoni which makes its debut at number 3 with $13.2 million over the weekend.

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Still in the top 5 at number 4 this week the dragon threequel takes $9.3 million to boost its gross to $135.6 million.

Rounding out the top 5 is Tyler Perrys hit comedy with his most popular creation Medea which takes $8 million this weekend boosting its total gross to $59 million.
