World Box Office Analysis Weekending 18th November 2018: Fantastic beasts 2 debuts at the top with $253 million

With the release of a new film from JK Rowlings Wizarding World there was no doubt it would dominate the world on its debut, but worrying for Warner Bros. it is the lowest opening for a film from the fantasy world.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald

Opening into a very wide 80 countries the latest film from the author and universe that brought us Harry Potter takes $253.2 million on its debut week.

Despite the strong opening across the world this was still lower that the first Fantastic Beasts film and the lowest of any film from the Harry Potter Wizarding World.

Bohemian Rhapsody

The Freddy Mercury film continues to do well across the globe and this week sits at number 2 with $61 million taken from 79 countries.

Venom

The Sony villain movie is still getting a boost from its second wind since its release in China and this week falls to 3 with $57 million from 66 countries.

The Grinch

The Dr Seuss film is doing well in the US and UK which is keeping the film at number 4 this week with $47.5 million taken from just 24 countries.

Widows

The Steve McQueen directed movie gets a boost from its North American release and enters the top 5 with a weekly gross of $15 million from 20 countries.

Instant Family

Just missing out on a place in the top 5 this week is Mark Wahlberg's latest film which still manages to enter the global box office at 6 with $14.7 million from a single country.
