Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker makes its UK box office debut at the top of the chart while Cats makes its debut at number 2 despite being panned by critics and movie goers alike.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

After 44 years the series of movies that started with Star Wars in 1977 comes to an end, and as with all the other movies in the saga the new films makes its debut at the top, this time with a gross of £14.4 Million.

There is an element of disappointment here as Star Wars: The Last Jedi took £28 Million on its debut and Star Wars: The Force Awakens £34 Million.

This could be because the film has not had good reviews from many critics or it could be because the fans have become a little tired of Star Wars films, this is the 5th movie since Disney bought Lucasfilms.

When George Lucas was making Star Wars movies he released each movie 2 - 3 years apart and each movie felt like an event and the fans were hungry for more, Disney have had a far more agressive release schedule and the sequel trilogy has only taken 4 years to complete.

Unlike the Marvel movies it would seem the Star Wars fans need far longer between movies, saying that this is a good film to finish of the saga and it could well have a long run and make its money in the new year.

Cats

Cats

The writing was on the wall for this movie after the criticism the first trailer got, and hence the movie makes its debut at number 2 but with a relatively low £3.2 Million.

Jumanji: The Next Level

The sequel movie starring Karen Gillan and Dwayne Johnson falls to number 3 this week, after making its debut at the top last week, with £2.9 Million.

This gives the movie a 2 week total of £14.7 Million which is a couple of million lower than its predecessor.

Frozen II

Disney's sequel movie drops to number 4 this weekend with a gross of £2.2 Million.

This gives the film a total gross of £41.7 Million after 5 weeks of release which is over £10 Million higher that its predecessor.

Last Christmas

The festive movie has proved to be a bigger films in the UK than many other parts of the world and while it falls to number 5 this weekend with £803,948 it has still taken a quite respectable £16.9 Million over 6 weeks.

Joker

The mega smash hit DC superhero villain movie climbs back onto the box office this weekend spending its 11th in total and has now taken £57.9 Million.

The top 3 films this week stay the same headed by Frozen II spending another weekend at the top while the top new film of the week is a live broadcast of Les MisÚrables which enters at 4.

Frozen II

Disney's sequel movie makes it 3 weeks at the top of the UK box office with a weekend gross of £4.3 Million.

The movie now has a UK total gross of £33.6 Million and is well ahead of the previous movie and is currently the 8th highest grossing movie of 2019.

Knives Out

The murder mystery movie directed by Rian Johnson remains at number 2 for a second weekend with a gross of £1.6 Million which brings the films total UK gross to £6 Million after 2 weeks.

Last Christmas

Proving to be a proper holiday hit the Paul Feig directed movie remains at number 3 this week with a gross of £1.3 Million.

This brings the movies total UK gross to £12.4 Million after 4 weeks of release.

Les MisÚrables: The Staged Concert

Les MisÚrables: The Staged Concert

Highest new entry of the weekend comes from a live broadcast of the hit musical starring the likes of Michael Ball and Alfie Boe which grosses £946,785 over the weekend.

Blue Story

The controversial movie takes £378,589 this weekend as it slips to number 5 with a total gross of £3.6 Million after 3 weeks.

Joker

The hit movie is the longerst running film on the box office this week with 8 weeks and is the highest total gross movie with £57.4 Million.

With little competition Frozen II hangs on to the top spot for a second weekend while Knives Out makes its debut on the chart at 2 and lower down the re-boot of Charlies Angels makes its debit on the top 5.

Frozen II

Disney's sequel movie holds onto the top spot for a second weekend with a gross of an amazing £8.7 Million.

With an incredible second weekend this puts the films total UK gross to £27.3 Million, and with the UK Christmas holidays just around the corner this will go up considerably.

The movie managed to command 53% of the total taking of this weeks top 15 movie.

The film is beating the first movies gross at the same stage by some considerable amount, it is already the 9th highest grossing movie of 2019 and will go on to be one of the top 10 grossing movies ever in the UK.

Knives Out

Knives Out

Rian Johnsons first film since Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been met with glowing reviews and is the tip grossing movie of the week with a debut of £2.9 Million.

With such good reviews the film could hang around quite a while, an achievement for a low budget movie.

Last Christmas

Paul Feig's festive movie falls to 3 this weekend with a gross of £1.6 Million, the films has taken £9.9 Million after 3 weeks of release.

Blue Story

The film has been hit with much controversy with some cinema chains refusing to show the movie but the directorial debut from Andrew Onwubolu falls to 4 this week with £850,427 for a 2 week total of £2.9 Million.

Charlie's Angels

The Elizabeth Banks directed reboot of the '70's TV cop show makes its UK box office debut at number with a weekend gross os £547,004.

The movie has picked up some very positive reviews and its a surprise the film only entered at 5, the chances are the film wont get any higher and has been a flop around the globe so a sequel is looking unlikely.

Joker

The Joaquin Phoenix starring movie has the longest run on the UK box office with 9 weeks and is also the highest totla grossing film with £57.4 Million.

Disney's sequel movie Frozen II makes its UK box office debut at the top knocking last weeks top film, Last Christmas, into second place, while Blue Story makes an impressive start to its box office run at number 3.

Frozen II

Disney bring to the screen the follow up to 2013's Frozen which opened to £4.7 Million, the new movie opens to £15..08 million which is the biggest opening weekend for an animated movie in the UK beating Pixar's Toy Story 4 from earlier in the year.

To be fair the first movie did the hard work and built up the kind of following that meant the sequel was always going to hit big on its release.

Frozen went on to gross £43 Million during its total run and there is no reason why this movie will not match, if not exceed that films total.

The films £15 Million opening is the 28th highest ever in the UK, ahead of 2003's The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King and behind 2016's Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

Last Christmas

Last week number 1 debut movie falls to number 2 this week with £2.2 Million which considering the negative reviews is still good.

The total gross sits at £6.7 Million after 2 weeks of release.

Blue Story

Blue Story

Director Andrew Onwubolu marks his debut with this gritty gangland drama set in London which makes is debut at number 3 with an incredible £1.3 Million from just 310 cinemas.

Le Mans '66

The racing drama starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale falls to 4 this week with £1.1 Million pushing its total to £4.2 Million after 2 weeks.

21 Bridges

Joker
