With the release of a new Marvel movie there is always excitement, but this one is a bit different with pre-hype predicting the film would be big and sure enough Avengers: Endgame opens to the largest weeekend gross in the US ever.

Captain Marvel

Avengers: Endgame

Films open big but none this big and the final instalment of this phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe opens to the tune of $350 million.

This easily beats the previous biggest opening, Avengers: Infinity War, by 36% proving that built up hype can work, and with the critics generally liking it film it must have helped its box office.

Analysts will now be looking to see if the film can beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens total gross of $936.6 million and if it can become the first movie to gross more than a Billion dollars in the US.

Captain Marvel

Getting a good boost from its Marvel stablemate this film goes back to number 2 this week with a gross of $8 million on its 8th weekend.

This pushes the films total US gross to $413.5 million and eyeing its next milestone of half a billion dollars.

The Curse Of La Llorona

Last weeks top film falls to number 3 this week with a second week weekend gross of $7.5 million pushing its total gross to $26.1 million.

Breakthrough

The faith based film falls to number 4 this week with $6.3 million and a total gross of $26.1 million on its second weekend.

Shazam!

With superhero movies all the rage the DC's Captain Marvel is a 5 this week with $5.5 million pushing the films total to $131.1 million after 4 weeks of release.

It may have been the lowest grossing weekend in the US for a decade but people chose the pre Avengers: Endgame weekend to scare themselves with The Conjuring Universe horror film The Curse Of La Llorona.

From the Universe of The Conjuring, Annabelle and The Nun comes another offshoot as audience in the US chose to be scared by the ever popular series.

The new film from director Michael Chaves took $26.5 million on its debut weekend of release.

Shazam!

Falling to number 2 this weekend is the DC Universe superhero movie that takes $17.3 million on its 3rd weekend of release.

The film has now taken $121 million in the US and has now surpasses $100 million milestone.

Breakthrough

Audiences not in the mood to be scared this weekend instead went for this true life drama which enters the box office at number 3 with a debut weekend gross of $11.1 million, $14.6 million with previews.

Captain Marvel

The superhero character will be in cinemas again this coming weekend as part of Avengers: Endgame, but her solo movie debut is still at number 4 on the chart this week.

The Brie Larson starring film takes $9.1 million on its 7th weekend to boost its total US gross to $400 million meaning it has now surpassed another milestone.

Little

2 weeks in and the age bending comedy falls to number 5 with a $8.4 million weeeknd pushing its total gross to $29.3 million.

Dumbo

The live action remake of the classic animation has not been the biggest hit for Disney or director Tim Burton but this week is at number 6 and surpasses the $100 million milestone after 4 weeks of release.

The Conjuring franchise continues to expand in a similar was to the Disney MCU and this week they launch a new branch of the series which tops the globe on its debut.

The film takes $56.5 on its debut weekend from 72 countries.

Three weeks in and the DC Universe superhero movie take $39.3 million from 81 countries pushing its total global gross to $322.8 million.

Dumbo

Disney's live action film from Tim Burton is at 3 this week taking $20.5 million from 56 countries pushing its total gross to $307.8 million.

Captain Marvel

Eight weeks in and the MCU movie is still on the global top 5, this week its at 4 taking $15.6 million from 50 countries.

This pushes the films total global gross to an amazing $1.08 billion.

Breakthrough

After a quiet release last week the family drama movie takes $13.9 million this week from 21 countries.

This pushes the film total global gross to $20.5 million.

The Chinese film this week surpasses the $100 million mark at the global box office, the films total gross is $113 million after 3 weeks of release.
