This week saw the launch of the origin Transformers movie in China and the boost gave the film enough to top the global chart knocking Aquaman from the top despite the DC movie nearing a billion in grosses.
With an $82 million debut in China the Transformers movie moves to the top spot on the global box office with a weekend gross of $95 million from 63 countries.
This brings the films total global gross to $289.1 million.
The DC Universe movie has been a mega smash across the globe and takes $86.9 million this weekend from 79 countries but falls from the top to number 2.
The film is nearly at a billion dollars with $940 million and will reach the milestone by next weekend.
The Mary Poppins sequel has not been the global hit Disney may have been looking for, but a $38.7 million weekend from 47 countries puts the film at number 3.
The films total gross now sits at $258 million after 3 weeks of release.
The Disney film falls to number 4 this week with $29.6 million from 32 countries which brings its total gross to $404 million.
The animated feature takes $24.7 million this weekend from 61 countries, this boosts the Sony movies total to $275.2 million.
2018 was another year at the US box office where Disney dominated with their Marvel franchise and Pixar hit while there was a sprinkling of Dinosaurs and a Deadpool for good measure.
The top film in the US in 2018 was the critically acclaimed Black Panther which was released in February and grossed over $700 million during its box office run.
As if that wasn't enough Disney also took the second spot of 2018 with Avengers Infinity War which was released in April and took an amazing $678 million at the US box office.
And again as if that wasn't enough for Disney they also managed the third highest grossing movie of 2018 with their Pixar studio film Incredibles 2 which was released in June and grossed over $608 million.
Universal took the 2018 number 4 slot in the US with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and despite the fact that it took over $400 million in the US it was far from the 3 Disney hits above it.
Finally on the top five hits of 2018 in the US is the Fox property Deadpool 2 which took $324 million, interestingly Fox's movie devision is about to be acquired by Disney, and the film had a second dip of the box office over the holiday period.
Disney's Marvel domination is set to continue into 2019 with more high profile releases, and despite the lack of any Star Wars movies (another Disney property) on this list the anticipation for 2019's Episode IX is already growing.
Here is the top 10 film of 2018 at the US box office.
The moment many film fans have been waiting for has happened and Disney/Marvel have released the first trailer for Avengers 4 now officially titled Avengers Endgame.
As well as the trailer and title we get the first official poster for the film which is excellent and tells a story in itself.
As if that wasn't enough we also get a new release date of April 26 2019, so we can enjoy the new superhero movie a little earlier than expected.
The 2 minute 25 second trailer is quite sombre in feeling and we see the remaining Avengers all contemplating their next movie, and spoiler warning (sort of) Jeremy Renner is definitely back this time, check it out below.
This week the top 2 films flip round and A Star Is Born takes over at the top from Venom on their second weekends while First man has to settle for fourth on its debut.
The Oscar contender was unable to makes its debut at the top of the UK box office last weekend but after a tight fought battle manages to knock Venom off the top spot.
The films weekend gross is £3.08 million which takes the films total gross to £9.6 million
The Marvel film was not quite strong enough to hold on to the top spot for a second weekend as it falls to number 2 this week with £3 million.
This brings the Tom Hardy starring films total UK gross after 2 weekends of release to £13.7 million.
Its worth noting that across the week Monday - Sunday Venom is the top film with just £5.7 million compared to £5.5 million.
The British comedy starring Rowan Atkinson stays at 3 this week with a weekend gross of £2.9 million, this brings the films total gross after 2 weeks to £8.3 million.
It was in all a very tight fought battle at the box office for the top 3 places with less than £200,00 between the 3 movies.
Highest new entry of the week is First Man, set around the American space race to put the first man on the moon starring Ryan Gosling at Neil Armstring.
The film makes its debut with £2.4 million in the UK putting it this week at number 4, with Oscar buzz already in full swing for the film we could see this have a lengthy run.
Finally in the top 5 is a new animated family film from Warner Bros. which makes its debut taking £2.3 million over the weekend.
Worth noting is that the top five films in the UK all take over £2 million this weekend as the bad weather sets in after a very good summer and people look for indoor things to do.
Also interesting this week is that positions 4 down to 8 are all new entries, and the weeks only new entries
The Disney Pixar film has now been arounf for 14 weeks and has taken an incredible £55.9 million.
