Three weeks at the top of the global box office for Jurassic World Dominion as Lightyear enters the box office at number 2 and The Witch 2: The Other One is new at number 4.

World box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Jurassic World: Dominion (3rd weekend)
  • Highest debut - Lightyear (@2)
  • Longest run - The Bad Guys (14 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness ($942 Million)

World weekend box office top 5 breakdown 17th - 19th June 2022

Spending a third weekend at the top of the global box office the Jurassic World sequel movie which is still released in 73 countries takes $135 Million.

This is a large 58% drop over last weekend and the movie is now the 5th top movie of 2022 globally with $623 Million.

Highest new entry of the weekend is the first Pixar movie to get a cinema release since Onward in 2020.

The gets a release in 44 countries and takes $85.6 Million on its debut to land at number 2, the movie has got very mixed reviews which could effect its performance going forward.

In comparison, Onward took $68 Million on its debut weekend and landed at number 1, but it was not a recognised IP and it was basically the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and people were starting to get nervous about cinemas before the world locked down.

The Tom Cruise high flying sequel has far outdone its expectation and on its 4th weekend drops to number 3 with $83 Million from 65 countries, it is a tiny 19% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken an amazing $885 Million globally and is the 2nd top movie of 2022, it is only a matter of time before it tops the list for 2022 and it will most likely top $1 Billion.

Sequel movie from South Korean director Park Hoon-jung enters the global box office at number 4 with a weekend gross os $9.9 Million from a single country release of South Korea.

Seven weeks on and the MCU sequel movie takes $6.7 Million and drops to number 5, a 35% drop over last weekend, released still in 52 countries.

The movie is getting close to the Billion dollar mark with $942.4 Million and is currently the top movie of 2022.

After Warner Bros. announced earlier Monday that Dune was moving from December 2020 to 1st October 2021, the same day as The Batman, it was only a matter of time until they moved the Robert Pattinson starring movie.

The Batman has now been moved to 4th March 2022, 18 month from now, that is a hell of a wait.

The movies production has been hit quite hard with COVID-19 including star Pattinson coming down with the virus.

Also on the move is The Martrix 4 which is yet to get a full title, the movie starring Keanu Reeves is now set for Christmas 2021 while further down the line The Flash is set for November 2022 and Shazam 2 moves to June 2023!

No doubt more changes are to come, Warner Bros. still have Wonder Woman 1984 set for Christmas 2020, what are the odds for that changing?

It has taken Avengers: Endgame 13 weeks, and in that time it has broken almost every box office record, but this weekend it gets the biggest prize of all and beats Avatar to become the highest grossing movie of all time.

Avatar released in 2009 has held the honor for the last 10 years with a total gross of $2.789 Billion from its initial release and all subsequent releases but Avengers: Endgame hits a gross of $2.790 Billion this Saturday.

There was a time when it was thought the gross would never be beaten and despite the former top grossing movie Titanic getting a re-release and pushing its gross over $2 Billion and Star Wars: The Force Awakens having a good go back in 2015 neither were good enough.

There is every possibility that the total global gross will continue to grow and although it seems unlikely now who knows it could be the first film to get to $3 Billion.

Although the gross of the film has beaten Avatar the ticket sales, or adjusted for inflation as its often known as, is still a way from Avatar which would have grossed $3.273 Billion were it released today, although Gone With The Wind from 1939 is still on top of that list.

It is only a matter of time before we get the first $3 Billion film, and hence beating Avenger: Endgame but for the time being Disney and Marvel can enjoy this mighty task.

It was only a matter of time before the success of Downton Abbey got a big screen outing and September 2019 sees the release of that movie.

Today we get the teaser trailer, and although its all pomp and ceremony its exactly what is expected.

Oozing Britishness the film will continue where the series left off, check out the teaser below.

With the success of Suicide Squad it would only be a matter of time before we had another anti-hero movie, and today Sony Pictures presents the second trailer for Venom.

Starring Tom Hardy the film is a Spider-Man spin off and puts the villain centre stage and looks at the origins of the character.

The film is released in the UK on 5th October, check out the trailer below.
