UK Box Office Weekend 14th April 2017: Fast 8 tops the box office with 14 million pound debut

Fast and Furious 8
Producing a series best with a £14 million opening weekend Fast and Furious 8 tops the UK box office easily making more than the rest of the chart added together.

This is the first instalment without the late Paul Walker and many thought the series could not continue, but number 8 in the long running series has performed better then expected.

The £14 million opening makes it the 30th best opening ever in the UK ahead ofThe Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and behind Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of The Sith.

After a week at the top The Boss baby falls to number 2 with £3 million bringing the films total to a rather good £16.7 million after 2 weeks.

The Handmaiden is new at number 6 with £474,752 and The Sense of an Ending is new at 10 with £329,948.

Highest total grossing movie on the chart is Beauty and The Beast with £65 million, its now the 10th top film in the UK, and the longest running film is Logan with 7 weeks.

Historical charts - A year ago - The Jungle Book hit the top of the chart on its debut while Zootopia fell to number 2.

Five years ago - Battle ship was the new film at the top of the box office while the 3D version of Titanic fell to number 2.

Ten years ago - Wild Hogs flew into the top of the box office knocking Mr. Beans Holiday down to number 2 after 2 weeks at the top.

Fifteen years ago - Bend It Like Beckham was the top new film of the week making its debut at number 1 while Blade II fell to number 3.

Twenty years ago - The special edition of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back made its debut at the top, it knocked the special edition of Star Wars to number 2.

Twenty five years ago - Hook made its debut at the top of the box office and with an all new top 3 Deceived fell to number 4.
