UK Box Office Weekend Report 4th - 6th March 2011: Rango makes its debut at the top of the box office

Rango
Johnny Depp voices the character of Rango this week which makes its debut at the top of the UK box office.

Rango

Rango is the story of a lizard who winds up in the Wild West of America. The film had a mediocre opening weekend in what has been a quiet weekend compared to recent weeks with a £1,638,613 weekend gross on its debut.

The runner up this week is another new entry in the shape of Matt Damon who stars in The Adjustment Bureau, the George Nolfi directed film took £1,395,715 over the weekend.

To Finish off a trio of new released at the top of the box office is the Liam Neeson starring Unknown. The crime thriller, for which Neeson is starting to pigeon hole himself, is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and took £1,356,345 this weekend.

Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are at number 4 with their Alien film Paul which has a weekend take of £1,109,766 with a total gross of £12,207,049, and getting over the hangover of the award season is The Kings Speech which is now at 3 with a weekend of £1,076,381 which brings its total now to £41,930,117.

Last weeks top film, Gnomeo and Juliet, falls all the way to 6 this week, quite a drop post school holiday, but Rango is direct competition and took much of its potential audience this weekend.
