UK box office weekend top 5 breakdown 24th - 26th December 2021

Spider Man: No Way Home

With one of the biggest openings at the UK box office in history it was going to take something special to stop it from spending a second weekend at the top, and despite the much anticipated The Matrix Resurrections getting released this weekend it was no match for the MCU titan.

The movies takes £4.6 Million on its second weekend of release, a massive 86% drop over last weekend, but it has to be taken into consideration that the weekend missed a day this week as cinemas were closed on Saturday, Christmas Day.

The movie has now taken a massive £51.1 Million after 2 weeks and is the second top movie in the UK of 2021, it will have a battle to top No Time To Die which has taken nearly £100 Million in 2021, but it will try its hardest with only a few more days left in the year.

The Matrix Resurrections

The fourth movie in The Matrix series makes its debut at number 2 this weekend as the films gets a simultaneous HBO Max and cinema release.

The movie enters the box office with a £2.6 Million gross which although the lowest is only just below the first The Matrix from 1999 but well below its two sequels.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

The live action version of the animated favourite falls to number 3 this weekend with £349,836, a 54% drop, giving the movie a 3 week total of £3.8 Million.

West Side Story

'83

Making its debut at number 5 this week is director Kabir Khan's movie about the 1983 Indian cricket team and their amazing win over champions West Indies.

The movie takes £182,518 over the weekend, not bad for a movie not in the English language.

The US box office is still limping along with drive-in movie theatres making up most of the box office figures as cinemas continue to struggle to re-open in light of the continued threat of COVID-19

The world of cinema is no stranger to adaptation of Stephen King books and today we get the trailer for Pet Sematary based on his 1983 novel of the same name.

The book got the cinema treatment back in 1989 but by all accounts the film wasn't that great, and with horror films all the rage maybe now is the right time for a remake/re-image.

The film stars Jason Clarke and John Lithgow and is released in the UK on April 5th 2019, check out the trailer below.
