It's time for another catalogue film to hit the top of the UK box office as England comes out of lockdown and cinemas slowly start to open again, 231 cinemas made up this weeks box office.
Elf was first released in the UK at the beginning of December 2003, it never hit the top then spending 4 weeks in the runner up spot, exactly 17 years later the movie get to the top.
Highest new movie of the week is a new telling of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol while outside the top 5 Katherine Jenkins Christmas Spectacular makes a debut at number 10, director Rob Savage's move Host is new at 14 and the re-edit of The Godfather Part III is new at 15.

After 17 years director Jon Favreau's festival favourite hits the top of the UK box office, albeit under strange circumstances, with a weekend gross of £48,244, a 97% increase from last weekend.
The big increase from last weekend is due to the increased number of cinemas that have re-opened, but the movie has taken a total of £17 Million since its release in 2003.
The Chris Columbus movie falls from the top this week with £36,878, a 93% increase from last weekend!
This pushes the movies total gross to £9.64 Million since its 1990 release.
Highest film of the weeks that is not a re-release is this animation from directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart which takes £26,171, a 94% increase over last weekend.
The movie has now taken £74,874 since its release 4 weeks ago.
Highest new movie of the week lands at number 4, a re-telling of the classic Christmas story, this time directed by Jacqui Morris and starring Simon Russell Beale and Martin Freeman.
The film takes £22,366 on its debut weekend of release.
Finally on the top 5 is the former number 1 movies which takes £21,952 on its 7th weekend of release giving the animated take a total gross of £1 Million, it finally made it over the Million line!
This weekend, Friday 4th December 2020, there are 7 new films released in the UK and where available in cinemas looking to hit the box office, but can they challenge last weekends top movie, Home Alone, for the number 1 spot?

No change at the top this week with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies staying for it's second week of release, it's weekend gross of £5.4 million is down 55.6% on last weeks.
The latest, and last, film in the series is running at the same rate of gross as the previous film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, but behind The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Paddington stays at two this week and highest new film is in at three, Night At The Museum: Secret of the Tomb, grossing this week £1.8 million.
Also new this week is Dumb and Dumber To which enters at four, Indian film P K which is new at seven.
