News from around the web

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are still at the top of the US box office while The Gentlemen from director Guy Ritchie is the top new movie of the week at number 4.

Bay Boys For Life

The buddy cop movie hangs onto the top spot for a second weekend with a gross of $34 Million.

This brings the movies total gross after 2 weeks of release to $120.6 Million, not bad and it will go on to be as big a hit as the first two movies.

The film has been a far bigger hit than expected and must be giving Sony a lot of relief as part 4 has already been green lit.

1917

The war movie that is winning awards for director Sam Mendes all over the place stays at number 2 this weekend with a gross of $15.8 Million.

The film has now taken a very respectable $103.8 Million after 5 weeks of release.

Dolittle

Robert Downey Jr.'s star turn in the Dr. Dolittle got off to a shaky start but stays at number 3 this week with $12.5 Million.

The film now has a total gross of $44.6 Million after 2 weeks of release, and although the film will most likely not even get to $100 Million it looking better than it did 2 weeks ago on release.

The Gentleman

Guy Ritchie follows up the live action Aladdin movie with a back to roots gangster movie starring Matthew McConaughey.

The film makes its debut on the US box office at 4 with $11.03 Million.

Jumanji: The Next Level

The sequel movie starring Dwayne Johnson falls to 5 this week with $7.9 Million and a total gross of $283.4 Million after 7 weeks of release.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The latest Star Wars movie falls outside the top 5 this week but it is the top total grossing movie on the box office with $501.5 Million after 6 weeks of release.

Parasite

The South Korean award winning film is the longest running film on the US box office this week with a run of 16 weeks, it has grossed $31.1 Million.

This weekends box office chart has Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker remaining at the top while The Gentlemen makes its UK debut at number 3.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Remaining at the top of the box office this weekend for a third straight weekend is the final Star Wars film directed JJ Abrams which takes £4.3 Million.

This puts the films 3 week total gross at £51.3 Million which is £17 Million behind that of Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the same stage in its box office run.

Star Wars fatigue has clearly set in for many fans, and despite the fact the film has been mostly better received than the previous film its numbers are simply not as good.

There is a small glimmer of hope that maybe the Christmas period slowed down the cinema going audience but I suspect this will end up the lowest grossing of the sequel trilogy.

Jumanji: The Next Level

The Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black starring sequel sits at number 2 this weekend with £3 Million on its 4th weekend of release.

This puts the movies total gross at £28.4 Million which is within a whisker of Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle when it was at the 4 week mark.

The Gentlemen

Director Guy Ritchie hits the box office again in less than 12 months with a London gangster basted movie which makes its debut with £3 Million.

Ritchies last movie was the Disney remake of Aladdin which made its debut with £7 Million, there was no way this was going to equal that but in comparison one of his early films with a similar genre style, Snatch from 2000, had a debut in the same ball park.

Little Women

Greta Gerwig's telling of the classic novel falls to number 4 this weekend with £2.6 Million for a 2 week total gross of £9 Million.

Jojo Rabbit

Director Taika Waititi brings us his latest film which makes its debut at number 5 with £2.4 Million.

A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon

The Aardman animated movie as been on the box office for a 12 week run and is the longest on this weeks box office, it has taken £7 Million on that time.

Last week saw Frozen II at the top of the UK box office, can any of this weeks new releases do enough to top the chart this weekend?

The Joker holds onto the top spot in quite spectacular style leaving Abominable comes in at 2 and quite disappointingly Will Smith's new film Gemini Man has to settle for a debut at 3.

Joker

Todd Phillips film about the psychotic Batman villain holds onto the box office charts this week in style only dropping 22% from last week for a $9.8 Million weekend gross.

This puts the Joaquin Phoenix starring movie at £30 Million after 2 weeks of release, the movie is already the 7th top grossing movie of the year.

Abominable

Dreamworks new animated tale is the top new film of the week and makes its debut at number 2.

The debut gross of the film is £2.1 Million, in comparison their last film, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, from earlier this year made its debut with £5.3 Million.

Gemini Man

The new Will Smith movie directed by Ang Lee disappoints this week and makes its debut at number 3.

After a lot of hype promoting the action and the special effects the debut gross should have been a lot better, but the film makes its debut with £1.7 Million.

Smiths last film to hit the chart was Disney's Aladdin so its an unfair comparison but that film debuted to £7 Million in May of this year.

Judy

Despite a lot of critical praise the Rene Zellweger starring true life drama falls to 4 this week with a weekend gross of £1.1 Million.

This takes the films total gross after 2 weeks of release to £4.7 Million.
