Released in the US this weekend, Friday, 9th February 2024, there are 6 new releases looking to take your attention and where available could hit your local cinema and try and replace Argylle from the top of the North American box office.

The signs were strong that Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse was going to be a big movie and with a debut gross over $120 Million it surpassed expectation and is now the 7th top debuting movie in June at the North American box office.
The movie takes close to a $100 Million more than its predecessor Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which took $35 Million on its debut in 2018.
The Little Mermaid~2023 spends a single weekend at the top of the box office and falls to number 2 this weekend and has taken $186.2 Million after 2 weekends of release.
Second highest new movie this weekend is the Stephen King written movie The Boogeyman which makes its debut at 3 with $12.3 Million.
Holdover movies fill out most of the top 15 until a new entry at 12 for Past Lives which takes $232,266 and at 13 there is a new entry for The Roundup: No Way Out which takes $200,000.

As Disney continue to milk their animated back catalogue its time for The Little Mermaid from the start of their "renaissance" period to get the live action remake.
The movie takes a reasonable $95.5 Million over the 3 day weekend and $117.5 Million over the 4 day memorial weekend which is considered the start of the summer season.
Fast X drops to second place after a single weekend at the top, but the movie never stood a chance against the might of a Disney movie.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still hanging on to a top 5 place and after 8 weeks has taken $558 Million.
Mark Hamil stars in The Machine~2023 which is new at number 5 this weekend with $4.9 Million and the Robert De Niro comedy About My Father is one place below with $4.25 Million.
Also new this weekend is Kandahar at number 7 with $2.4 Million and You Hurt My Feelings at number 8 with $1.3 Million.
Highest new movie this weekend
The tenth movie in The Fast and the Furious franchise makes its debut at the top of the US box office this weekend with a gross of $67.5 Million.
This is a slither lower than the $70 Million of the previous movie, which came out during the pandemic, and its way lower than the series high, Fast & Furious 7 which was released in April 2015.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 drops to number 2 this weekend and has taken $266.5 Million in total after 3 weeks of release in the US.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still hanging on to a top 3 place after 7 weeks of release and has taken nearly $550 Million at the US box office.
The only other new entry on this weeks top 15 was Master Gardener which makes its debut at 12 with $269,200.

Sequel movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods makes its debut on the US box office chart this week and despite good reviews takes a debut gross far lower than expected, and far lower than the original movie.
Also new this weekend is Moving On at number 12 with $821,961 and Inside at number 13 with $510,110.

Sequel to the 2019 movie Shazam! this followup sees the start of the end of the current DCEU before new head James Gunn takes over with a new roster of movies.
A disappointing start to the movies box office run despite making its debut at the top, but with good WOM it could see a long run on the chart.
After making its debut at the top last weekend with a series high debut the Scream~1997 series movie falls to number 2 this weekend with $17.3 Million, a 61% drop over last weekend.
The movie is still outgrossing the 2002 Scream~2022 by nearly $25 Million.
The Rocky spin off sequel movie falls to number 3 this weekend as its gross goes to $127 Million and looks set to be the highest of the Creed series.
The Adam Driver vehicle drops to number 4 this weekend and looks set to fall out of the chart in the next couple of weeks taking in the region of $30 Million.
The start of the MCU Phase 5 has got off the a bit of a rocky start as the third of the Ant-Man movies falls to number 5 this weekend with a total gross of just over $200 Million, it will end of as one of the lowest grossing MCU movies.
