With Tom hanks starring as an astronaut in a rocket that goes drastically wrong, the ITV drama about a big stately home goes to the big screen and some people try to climb the biggest mountain in the world, what were some of the highlights over the last 30 years at the UK box office?

Top total grossing: - Days Of Thunder which had taken £8.3 Million after 10 weeks of release.

British hit Downton Abbey beats a trio of new releases at the top of the US box office to hit the top spot on its debut leaving IT Chapter Two to fall off the top to number 4 after a couple of weeks at the top.

Downton Abbey

Taking to top spot on the US box office on its debut weekend of release is the British ITV drama series which has been translated to the big screen.

The TV series was already a big hit in America and the first film hits the top with a weekend gross of a very respectable $31 Million.

Ad Astra

Brad Pitt stars as an astronaut who is sent ot look for his presumed dead father in deep space.

The James Gray directed film opens at number 2 with a $19.2 Million debut gross.

Rambo: Last Blood

Sylvester Stallone brings one of his more famous creations back to the big screen for one last outing which enters the box office at number 3 this week with $19 Million debut.

IT Chapter Two

The horror film starring Pennywise falls from the top after 2 weeks at the top with a weekend gross of $17.2 Million.

This takes the film gross to $179.1 Million after 3 weeks of release, the film will not get close to its predecessors $327 Million total US gross.

Hustlers

Much has been made of this Jennifer Lopez starring movie, with word of possible Oscar glory come next February, but the film falls to number 5 this week with a $17 Million take.

This puts the films total gross at $62.5 Million after 2 weeks of release.

The Lion King

Disneys animated feature remake is at number 6 this week and has the longest run on this weeks US box office at 10 weeks, the film has made an incredible $537.5 Million so far.

Starring Brad Pitt, the BBFC have given Ad Astra a 12A age rating in the UK.

Ad Astra is a space drama directed by James Gray where an astronaut must travel across a treacherous area of space to find his father who has been missing for 30 years.

The trailers for the film have been positively received and there has even been mention of an Oscar nomination for star Brad Pitt.

The BBFC have given the film a 12A age rating for infrequent strong language, moderate violence, threat, gory images and the film has a runtime of 122 minutes (2 hours 2 minutes) and a release date of 18th September 2019.

Brad Pitts other release of the year (he's also in Once Upon A Time ... In Hollywood set for release in August) gets a new trailer which raps up the drama considerably.

The film which along with Pitt stars Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland is about an astronaut exploring the Outer edges of the solar system in search of his father.

The new trailer really hits hard with the drama with some great looking performances and a stirring score, there are early rumblings of awards for Pitts performance.
