Highest new movie this weekend

The celebrated horror movie from director Zach Cregger who also directed Miss March in 2009 hits the top of the North American box office on its debut weekend of release.

In a very quiet weekend for the box office through lack of high profile releases the movie takes $10 Million on its debut.

Despite that fact the Indian movie RRR was a bit hit earlier this year in North American it is not that common for Hindi speaking film to do well in America, but given the lack of new movie this movie from director Ayan Mukerji hits number 2 on its debut.

The movie takes $4.4 Million this weekend, in comparison RRR tool $9.5 Million in March landing at number 3, but it was a far busier period for the box office.

The Brad Pitt starring movie falls to number 3 this weekend with a gross of $3.2 Million, a large 43% drop but it is on its 6th weekend of release.

The movie has taken a total of $92.5 Million at the North American box office as it looks at the $100 Million milestone.

The biggest movie of the year, so far, drops to number 4 this weekend after hitting the top spot on the last weekend of the summer, this weekend it takes $3.1 Million which is a 47% drop over last weekend, still not bad for a movie on its 16th weekend of release.

This gives the movie a total gross in North America of $705.6 Million which means it is, and most likely will be, the top movie of 2022, the movie has also made its way into the top 5 movies of all time in America as its sits at number 5.

It has a long way to go to get any higher with Avatar sitting at number 4 with $760.5 Million, this seems out of reach for a movie which is coming to the end of its box office life, but I wouldn't write off this movie to do anything just yet!

The animated movie from Warner Bros. falls to number 5 this weekend with $2.8 Million on its 7th weekend, a 44% drop giving it a total North American gross of $85.4 Million.

Another weekend with no major, much hyped new releases we have a new number one in the shape of See How They Run~2022 which has a good cast and takes advantage of the movie slump.

There are 4 'new' releases inside the top 5 this weekend with the Spanish animated movie Tad the Lost Explorer and the Curse of the Mummy new at 2 while the re-release of Jaws comes in at number 3 and the Indian movie Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva is new at 4.

Outside the top 5 Bodies Bodies Bodies makes its debut at number 7 with £351,159.

UK weekend box office top 5 breakdown 9th - 11th September 2022

Highest new movie of the weekend

Starring Saoirse Ronan this murder mystery from director Tom George tops this weekends box office on its debut weekend of release in one of the quietest weekends since March this year when The Batman was on its fourth weekend at the top.

The movie takes £1.16 Million on its debut weekend and is the only movie this week to go over the million mark.

Coming from Spain this sequel animated feature lands on the box office at number 2 this weekend with £818,525.

Originally released at the end of 1975 this is the movie which not only put its director Steven Spielberg on the movie map but is often credited with creating the movie blockbuster.

This years re-release enters the box office at number 3 with £524,233, a weekend gross that would have normally hardly got it in the top 10 but weekend grosses are particularly low this weekend.

Indian movies always do well at the UK box office and this new movie from director Ayan Mukerji enters the chart at number 4 this weekend with a gross of £516,942.
