Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them stays at the top of the UK box office for a second weekend keeping off Allied which makes its debut at number 2.

With a second weekend gross of £8.8 million Fantastic Beasts has a brilliant second weekend which brings its total gross after 2 weekends of release to £30 million.

This result is actually keeping in line with the Harry Potter series, the latter films had far better first weekends but fell to roughly the same for the second weekend.

The potential for Beasts to go on and make similar to the early Potter films at least is quite high if it keeps on this trajectory.

Landing at 2 this week if the latest Brad Pitt starring film Allied, co starring Marion Cotillard and directed by Robert Zemeckis the drama takes £1.3 million on its debut.

For both Pitt and Zemeckis this is a fairly typical opening gross, although for both this is no where near their highest grossing debuts.

Also new this week is Bad Santa 2 at 4 with &poind;.7 million and very bad reviews, A United Kingdom at 6, Dear Zindagi at 9 and Paterson at 10.

Fantastic beasts this week becomes the top total grossing movie on the chart while Storks is the longest running film at 7 weeks.

A year ago - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 made it 2 weeks at the top of the UK box office while The Good Dinosaur was the top new film.

Five years ago - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 stayed at the top for a second week while My Week With Marilyn was the highest new entry at 3.

Ten years ago - Casino Royale stayed at the top for a second weekend while the top new film was The Santa Clause 3 The Escape Clause at number 3.

Fifteen years ago - Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone was at the top for another weekend, its second, while Spy Game was the top new film at number 2.

Twenty years ago - The First Wives Club stayed at the top for its second weekend of release while The Crow City of Angels was the top new film at number 5.

Twenty five years ago - Point Break was the top new film of the week making its debut at the top while What About Bob fell to number 2 on tis second weekend.

Disney threw their latest film hoping to hit the heights of Frozen at US audiences this weekend in the shape of Moana, they are hoping that the long holiday weekend would give it a boost.

With a debut weekend of $55 million over the Friday to Sunday they can't complain, and the long weekend from Wednesday night saw the film gain over $80 million.

With many families out shopping on the big retail weekend that includes black Friday this isn't such a bad debut, and with good reviews this could well go on and on for Disney.

Next weekend will be the big test, no new child friendly film are set for a release in the coming weeks which is good for Moana but then they get the Galaxy Far Far away to deal with, but who from, yes Disney, the Mouse House should have a good holiday.

Last weeks top film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, fell to number 2 this weekend and gained $45 million, this brings the films US total to $156 million, not the heights of Harry Potter.

Also new this week is America is Allied starring Brad Pitt at number 4 with $13 million and Bad Santa 2 at number 7 with $6 million and very bad reviews.

Longest stay on the US box office is split between 3 films, Doctor Strange, Trolls and Hacksaw Ridge all on 4 weeks, although the highest total grossing by a long margin is Doctor Strange with $205 million.

After a fairly lacklustre summer season of 2016 where the highlight was a bunch of anti-heroes in the shape of the Suicide Squad, will the Autumn schedule deliver?

We had high hopes, but had few thrills, out side of the DC movie Suicide Squad, Ghostbusters gave us a good laugh but didn't deliver as expected while Finding Dory pulled in the audiences but left us flat.

The rest of the year has some highlights but there is caution as the 2 biggest films are both sequels outside of their parent film series.

Before we even get to them in the latter part of the year we have a number of promising good films, Captain Fantastic starring Viggo Mortensen and American hit Kubo and The Two String gives a refreshing animation outside the Disney hit machine.

Of course we have British favourite Bridget Jones's Baby which is getting good reviews at the moment and a bit after that the recently announced Blair Witch remake/reboot/sequel.

Getting a lot of marketing hype is the remake/retelling of The Magnificent Seven and the looking promising, and a return to form for Tim Burton is Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children.

Tom Hanks returns to detective mode for a third time in Inferno, although we didn't like the previous 2 films and then another sequel emerges mid October with Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher Never Go Back.

Marvel return to their cinematic universe with a new hero in the shape of Doctor Strange and another sequel/reboot come in early November with Rings, the next in (surprise) The Ring series.

After the hotly anticipated Arrival starring Amy Adams arrives the season kicks up a gear with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first move into the Wizarding World outside Harry Potter.

The film, penned by J. K. Rowling, is being hyped to death and not surprisingly, the 8 Potter films did fantastic business at the box office and this is directed by series expert David Yates which just seems to get the ideas Rowling writes about.

Warner Bros. will be hoping this shows there is still life in the seemingly dormant series and please fans of the original and set up a new generation, 2 more film are already planned.

After that injection things go quiet with unwanted sequel Bad Santa 2 and Tom Hanks (again) in Scully the story of the pilot who landed a plane on the Hudson River.

Then to finish the year off another much lover series goes off piste with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, taking place just before the events of the original Star Wars.

The trailer have looked good and after the excellence of Star Wars: The Force Awakens expectation are massive.

This is a massive risk for Lucasfilms and Disney, and it will either boost the series to height never imagined or will do to the series what Episodes I - III did and nearly kill it, fortunately it has recovered!

To round the rear off we have Michael Fassbender trying to do what many other have failed to do and bring a video game series to the screen in Assassins Creed.
