This weekend there are 2 new releases looking to take your attention on the home entertainment market as we finally get Mortal Kombat on home streaming and we have Stowaway joining it.

Mortal Kombat

• It is their directorial debut.
• It stars Lewis Tan who last starred in Deadpool 2 (2018).
• The film also stars Jessica McNamee who last appeared in Black Water: Abyss (2020).

Stowaway

• This new release stars Anna Kendrick who's last film was Trolls World Tour (2020)
• It also stars Toni Collette who appeared in I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020).
• The film is brought to us by 2 time director Joe Penna.

Next weeks there are no new movies in the UK set for release

With cinemas in the UK opening very slowly, and with little in the shape of new releases Pixar's Onward goes back to the top of the box office replacing the 40 year old The Empire Strikes Back.

Onward

It gave up the number 1 spot last weekend to allow the Star Wars sequel a week of glory but the Pixar movie goes back to the top this week with £49.2K.

The movie has seen 6 weeks on the box office now and has a total UK gross of £5.4 Million.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

After making a glorious return to the top of the box office (I wonder if it would have done it under normal circumstances?) and the Star Wars sequel falls to number 2 this week with £33.3K.

The movie has now spent 41 weeks on the box office and taken £22.9 Million.

Trolls World Tour

The animated sequel is at number 3 this week with £23.4K for a £115.3K over 3 weeks.

Black Water: Abyss

Highest new film last week falls to number 4 this week with £16K and a £60K total.

Dirty Dancing

30 years on and the popular dance movie is at number 5 this week with £14.3K, with 15 weeks on the chart over that time the movie has taken a total of £3.9 Million.

Dreambuilders

Highest new film of the week is an animated feature at number 6, directed by Kim Hagen Jensen and Tonni Zinck the movie takes £12.4K on its debut weekend.

With cinemas slowly going back to normal in the UK 20th Century Fox (Disney) re-release The Empire Strikes Back on its 40th anniversary and it goes to the top of the chart.

There is a single new release in the shape of Black Water: Abyss at number 3.

Celebrating its 40th year of release the Star Wars sequel hits the top of the box office with a weekend £50.4K.

After this many years, multiple re-releases including the special edition in 1997 and the Secret Cinema in 2015 the movie has spent 40 weeks on the chart and taken £22.8 Million.

Onward

Falling to number 2 this week after being the first number one of the re-opening, Pixars latest movie takes £35K pushing its total to £5.3 Million after 5 weeks on the chart.

Black Water: Abyss

First new release in some months is this horror movie directed by Andrew Traucki which land at number 3 with a weekend take of £28k.

Trolls World Tour

Falling to number 4 this week is the controversial sequel with takes £19K on its second weekend, the movies total box office gross is £64.8K.

Dirty Dancing

The 33 year old favourite starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze is on re-release to encourage people back to cinemas and this week is at 5 with £15K for a total of £3.9 Million after 14 weeks on the chart, not consecutively!
