Disney's new animated movie, the sequel Frozen II, tops the US box office with ease on its first weekend of release with A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood landing at number 2, For V Ferrari falls from the top to number 3 on its second weekend.

Frozen II

Disney's sequel smashes its way onto the US box office this weekend with an excelled debut gross of $41.8 Million.

Although the film didn't break any records in the US it is the 3rd biggest animated opening of all time behind Incredibles 2 and Finding Dory.

It was a bigger opening than the first Frozen which took $94 Million back in 2013, and to top it all off its the fifth biggest opening in the month of November in the US.

A Beautiful Day In the Neighborhood

Starring Tom Hanks this bio-pic about the American children's entertainer Mr Rogers enters the box office at number 2 with $4.54 Million.

With Oscar buzz being attached to the film for Tom hanks, and even a best film award for the movie itself the film could hang around for a while and have a boost early next year during awards season.

Ford V Ferrari

Last weeks top film falls to third place this week with a gross of $4.5 Million which brings the total gross to $46.4 Million after 2 weeks.

21 Bridges

The new film starring Blank Panther's Chadwick Boseman makes its debut at number 4 this week with $3.3 Million.

Midway

Falling to number 5 this week is the World War II drama which take $1.3 Million taking the film total gross to $39.7 Million after 3 weeks of release.

Joker

The former number 1 film this week is the top total grossing movie on the box office with $324 Million and it also has the longerst run with 8 weeks.

Christopher Nolan's War epic Dunkirk makes it an incredible 4 weeks at the top of the UK charts leaving Annabelle Creation to make its debut at number 2.

With a less than 50% drop in weekend grosses to £2.6 million Dunkirk has had an incredible journey so far at the box office, especially as the big money was on Annabelle taking the top spot this week.

This has brought the war dramas total gross in the UK to £ 44.7 million and it is now easily the second top grossing film of 2017, it won't get to the top as Beauty and The Beast is on £77.3 million.

The sequel and spin off series Annabelle Creation makes its debut at number 2, the film is a sequel to Annabelle but is part of the Conjuring series of films.

The aggressive marketing push has given the film a £1.9 million opening weekend, this is almost identical to the original film which went on to gross £7 million in the UK.

Also new this week is Atomic Blonde at number 3 with £8 million and The Nut Job 2 Nutty by Nature at number 10 with just over £354 thousand.

Longest run on the box office is Baby Driver which has been around for 7 weeks now while the top grossing film this week is Dunkirk.

Disney have announces that as part of their ongoing continuation of the Star Wars film franchise they are to make films that expand the universe and concentrate on individual main characters, Yoda being the first.

Clearly inspired by the success, and probable continued success, of the series of films inspired from the Avengers comics, Disney will produce the films based in the star wars universe that look at the individual characters so we can look forward to Han Solo The Movie, Luke and Lia The Movie, and one a number of fans might like, Boba Fett The Movie.

These will be alongside the sequel trilogy that will be made, the first of which will be directed by J.J. Abrams and the first will be released in 2015.

Yoda will be the first to get the stand alone treatment, although there is no word on where this will fit into the overall picture, or during what time line it will take.

Best guesses are a couple of ideas, one to fill in the gap between Episode III and when we first meet him in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back which means the whole film wil be based on the swamp plant of Dagobah.

There is no reason why there couldn't be a few flash back in the film, but for all intense and purposes Yoda was supposed to be alone on this planet before Luke turned up for training, so it could be hard to fill in a full 2 hour movie?

The other is more inline with the X-Men origins style and look at where Yoda came from and how he came into existence, this would be a more interesting movie, and as he's meant to be in his mid 800's in Episode 1 this would be going way back into Star Wars history, and possible leave more a blank sheet for what to do.

Whatever happens lets hope that Disney stay true to the universe, at least as much as Lucas has, and we start getting films that fans as much as , well the original trilogy at least.
