Us box office top 5 breakdown 2nd - 4th July 2021

Fast and Furious 9

remaining at the top for a second weekend is the 9th instalment in the Fast and Furious series which this weekend took $24 Million, a 66% drop from last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross of $117.1 Million after 2 weeks of release, it is on tract to join the other recent Fast movies but because of the pandemic might not get to the heights of the top grossing in the series Fast and Furious 8.

Boss Baby 2

Top new movie of the weekend is the sequel movie to Boss Baby from 2017 which takes $17.3 Million on its debut.

The original movie was a big blockbuster and took $50 Million on its debut on its way to $175 Million, comparisons are currently unfair during the pandemic.

The Forever Purge

The fifth movie in The Purge series makes its debut at number 3 this weekend with $12.7 Million which is close to the debut weekend of The FIrst Purge from 2019, not bad considering the pandemic.

The movie series has become a firm favourite and the future of the movie could be good in the coming weeks.

A Quiet Place Part II

Dropping to number 4 this week is the highly praised horror movie which takes $4.2 Million this weekend, a 32% drop from last weekend.

The movie has been on the box office for 6 weeks now and has taken $144 Million, it is currently the top movie of the year but is getting challenged by Fast and Furious 9 and will get another competitor this weekend with Black Widow.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard

Dropping to number 5 this weekend is the sequel movie which takes $3 Million on its 3rd weekend of release, a 38% drop over last weekend, for a $31 Million US total.

With cinemas really starting to show a return to normal we get the best opening weekend of the 'pandemic' era as Fast and Furious 9 shows that a year of delays hasn't hurt its box office potential.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard falls to number 3 this weekend and with such a big blockbuster hitting the top no studios released new movies in competition so F9 is the only new movie on the top 10.

Delayed by over a year due to COVID-19 the 9th movie in the successful car franchise hits the top spot on its debut release with an pandemic excellent $70 Million.

As expected this beats all other movie in the last 18 months and sets a new standard for recent movies.

It also gives a real indication that things are starting to go back to normal and cinema audiences are starting to return.

The future looks good for the movie with just Black Widow still a while away which will challenge for the top spot.

A Quiet Place Part II

Making its debit at the top of UK box office this week is the sequel movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson which got its release in Monday.

The movie takes £1.6 Million across the whole week and takes £1 Million over the Friday - Sunday frame which would put it at number 3 behind Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway and In The Heights

Bad reviews for the movie means it may be short lived, the original movie from 2017 took £1.9 Million on its debut before a 5 week run on the box office.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

Remaining at number 2 this week is the Peter Rabbit sequel movie which takes £1.1, a 28% increase from last weekend.

This has the movie back at the top of the box office over the weekend frame and gives the movie a £15.2 Million total over 5 weeks of release.

It is the top grossing movie in the UK for 2021 and the top grossing movie over the pandemic period, which will be coming to an end with the lockdown set to finish in July.

In the Heights

Director Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the hit broadway musical enters the box office at number 3 this weekend with £1.07 Million, just shy of the Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway total for the weekend and was nearly the top movie over the 3 day weekend.

The movie would of course have been the top new entry at number 2 had it not been for The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard extended debut run.

A Quiet Place Part II

John Krasinski's horror hit falls from the top after 2 weeks to number 4 this weekend with £1.02 Million, a 22% drop over last weeeknd.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard

Making its debut at the top of the US box office is the sequel movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson which debuts with a weekend gross of $16.7 Million since its Wednesday release.

The movie took just over $11 Million on the Friday to Sunday frame which would have also taken it to the top.

This is naturally lower than the original movie which was released in August of 2017 and took over $21 Million on its debut.

A Quiet Place Part II

Falling from the top slot this weekend is the John Krasinski horror movie sequel which takes $9.4 Million this weekend, a very slim 19% down from last weekend.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

The Peter Rabbi sequel movie has perhaps been a bit of a flop in the US and this week sits at number 3 with a weekend gross of $6.1 Million, a 41% down from last weekend.

The movie is now at $20.3 Million after 2 weeks of release.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
