News from around the web

James Bond actor Daniel Craig has confirmed that he will not return as 007 for the next movie in the long running series.

No Time To Die is set for release next April with Craig as the main character but in a recent interview with German site Express he seems to have enough of playing the role and this will be his last.

The film has reportedly has a troubled production with injuries happening to Craig and other people involved in the making, and there has apparently been friction between Craig and director Cary Joji Fukunaga.

In the same interview the actor also dismissed any notion of returning as a director for the franchise.

Daniel Craig has appeared as James Bond since 2006 in Casino Royale and has been the character in Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.

There was little doubt that the new Spider-Man movie would remain at the top of the UK box office on its second weekend of release with only Annabelle Comes Home making a new entry on the top 5.

Spider Man: Far From Home

The last film in the phase 3 of the MCU remains at the top of the UK box office for a second weekend with a gross of £4.3 Million.

This puts the films total UK gross at £22.5 Million which is well ahead of the films predecessors £16.8 Million after 2 weeks.

In fact the film is on par with Spider-Man 3 which is the top grossing Spidey film at this stage of release.

Toy Story 4

The animated sequel from Pixar is at 2 this week with a weekend take of £3.8 Million.

This puts the films total UK gross at &42.5 Million after 4 weeks of release and is the second highest grossing film of the year behind Avengers: Endgame.

The film is also the highest total grossing movie on the box office this week (outside of Casino Royale on its Secret Cinema run).

Annabelle Comes Home

The new film from The Conjuring Universe enters the UK box office at number 3 this week with £2.2 Million.

This is good for a film from the horror franchise and is the highest opening film from the Annabelle trology.

Yesterday

Danny Boyles Beatle influenced film is at 4 this week with a gross of £1 Million pushing the films total to £8.1 Million.

Aladdin

The Disney Live action movie has been a bit of a surprise hit and this week is at number 5 with £355,707.

This puts the films total UK gross at £35 Million and its the fourth biggest hit of the year so far.

The Matrix

Making a return to the UK box office for its 20th anniversary is the ground breaking movie from 1999 from the Wachowski siblings.

The film is presented in a brand new 4K restoration and takes £163,812 this weekend, the other 2 films in the series were also released in 4K restoration prints.

Rocketman

The Elton John films has the longest run on the chart this weekend with 8 weeks and has a total UK gross of £22.8 Million.

The strength of Toy Story 4 was too much for newcomer Yesterday this week as the Pixar movie remains at the top and the Beatles inspired film enters the box office at number 2.

Toy Story 4

Remaining at the top for a second weekend the animated hit takes £8.3 Million, down less than 50% from last week.

This takes the films total gross in the UK to £27 Million, compared to Toy Story 3 which is the highest grossing film in the series this is £10 Million lower at the same stage of release.

Yesterday

The Beatles inspires hit directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis makes its debut at number 2 this week with £2.2 Million.

The Diretors highest grossing film in the UK to date is Slumdog Millionaire from 2009 who's debut was very similar to this, that film went on to gross £31.6 Million.

Richard Curtis biggest hit to date is LoveActually from 2003 which had a far bigger debut and went on to gross £36.2 Million in the UK with out the Oscar glory Slumdog had.

Aladdin

Disney's live action movie is still going strong in the UK and this week takes £694,716 for a total UK gross of £33.8 Million after 6 weeks of release.

Men In Black: International

Sinking fast but still with its neck above the water a weekend take of £515,506 keeps it in the top 5 at 4 and pushes its total to £6 Million.

There is no doubt this has not been the revival of the series that was hoped and it must be in question if we will see any more Men In Black films going forward.

Casino Royale

Daniel Craigs first outing as James Bond is currently getting the Secret Cinema treatment and this has pushed in film back into the top 5 this week with a weekend gross of £515,506.

This now pushes the films total UK gross to £57.2 Million since its original release in December 2006, it is the 19th highest grossing movie ever in the UK.

Avengers: Endgame

The Marvel smash hit is still doing very well in the UK and this week it is at number 6 after 10 weeks of release and has an incredible UK gross of £88.3 Million.

We are all taking a deep breath as this weekend approaches but until then Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them makes its fourth weekend at the top while top new film is Office Christmas Part which debuts at number 4.

Warner Bros. clearly released this new entry into the Wizarding World at the right time as the film adds another £2.7 million (£4.4 million across the week) to its total which now sits at £42.3 million.

Highest new film of the week if bromance comedy Office Christmas Party, it enters at number 4 with a debut gross of £1.2 million.

The film is a Christmas based movie and as such I suspect it will make a swift exit from the box office one the festive season is over.

Highest total grossing film on the chart this week is Fantastic beasts and the longest running film is Trolls which has now been around for 8 weeks.

It will be interesting to watch what happens over next week with the new entry in Star Wars, last years Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens had a £34 million debut weekend, with the reviews so far for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are we looking at even better? Historical box office

A year ago - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 had its 4th weekend at the top and with the world waiting or the first Star Wars film in over a decade there were no new film inside the top 15, Peggy Guggenheim Art Addict was the top new film at number 25!

Five years ago - Puss in Boots starring Antonio Banderas was the top new film at number one, it knocked Arthur Christmas to number 2 after 4 weeks at the top.

Ten years ago - George Miller directed Happy Feet which was the top new film at number 1, it knocked off Casino Royale which fell to number 3 after 3 weeks at the top.

Fifteen years ago - Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone remained at the top for a fourth weekend while the top new film was The 51st State starring Samuel L. Jackson at number 2.

Twenty years ago - Arnold Schwarzenegger was all festive in Jingle All The Way which made its debut at the top of the UK box office, its knocked The Long Kiss Goodnight down to number 2 after a single week at the top.

Twenty five years ago - Point Break made it 3 weeks at the top and with a quiet week for new releases there was nothing new on the top 10.

Although the anticipation for the new Disney film Moana is quite high its not enough to knock off the three time champion Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Fantastic Beast stays put at the top of the Uk box office for its third straight week with an amazing weekend gross of £4.4 million, this brings the films total gross to £37.8 million.

There should be one more weekend at the top for Beast before the Galaxy Far Far Away comes blasting in, but that should be enough to cement the film as one of the years top films.

The film still has a way to go before beating the lowest grossing Potter film which was 2004's Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban which made £45.6 million.

Highest new film of the week then come in at 2, Moana from Disney makes £2.2 million on its UK debut.

Compared to Frozen from Disney which came out at the same time of year in 2013 this is half its debut gross of £4.7 million hence we probably wont see this scaling those heights.

Also new this week is Sully at number 3 with £1.7 million, Pitbull. Niebezpieczne Kobiety at number 5 with £0.4 million, The Edge of Seventeen at 9 with £0.27 million and Bleed For This at number 10 with £0.25 million.

Highest total grossing movie this week is Fantastic beasts and longest run on the box office is Trolls which has been around now for 7 weeks.
