After one of the biggest debut's in UK box office history Spider-Man: No Way Home takes a dramatic dip week on week but retains the top of the chart ahead of the top mew movie The Matrix Resurrections.

Also new in the top 5 this week is '83 which is new at number 5 and Shyam Singa Roy which makes its debut at number 13 with £24,823.

UK box office weekend top 5 breakdown 24th - 26th December 2021

Spider Man: No Way Home

With one of the biggest openings at the UK box office in history it was going to take something special to stop it from spending a second weekend at the top, and despite the much anticipated The Matrix Resurrections getting released this weekend it was no match for the MCU titan.

The movies takes £4.6 Million on its second weekend of release, a massive 86% drop over last weekend, but it has to be taken into consideration that the weekend missed a day this week as cinemas were closed on Saturday, Christmas Day.

The movie has now taken a massive £51.1 Million after 2 weeks and is the second top movie in the UK of 2021, it will have a battle to top No Time To Die which has taken nearly £100 Million in 2021, but it will try its hardest with only a few more days left in the year.

The Matrix Resurrections

The fourth movie in The Matrix series makes its debut at number 2 this weekend as the films gets a simultaneous HBO Max and cinema release.

The movie enters the box office with a £2.6 Million gross which although the lowest is only just below the first The Matrix from 1999 but well below its two sequels.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

The live action version of the animated favourite falls to number 3 this weekend with £349,836, a 54% drop, giving the movie a 3 week total of £3.8 Million.

West Side Story

Steven Spielberg's remake falls to number 4 this weekend with £212,271, a 64% drop over last weekend, for a total gross of £3.8 Million after 3 weeks.

'83

Making its debut at number 5 this week is director Kabir Khan's movie about the 1983 Indian cricket team and their amazing win over champions West Indies.

The movie takes £182,518 over the weekend, not bad for a movie not in the English language.

It may be 25 years after the original but sequel movie Space Jam: A New Legacy top the US box office on its debut weekend removing Black Widow after a single week at the top.

Elsewhere on the US box office chart Escape Room: Tournament of Champions makes its debut at 3 and Nicholas Cage stars in Pig which is new at 10 with $945,000.

Space Jam: A New Legacy

25 years after the original movie which starred Micheal Jordon as the pro basketball player in a toon world comes the sequel which replaces Jordan for LeBron James, and the movie its the top spot on its debut.

The movie took $31.6 Million on its debut, comparisons to the original movie are irrelevant considering we are still in a pandemic and it was 25 years ago but Spance Jam made its debut with $27.5 Million at he end of 1996.

Black Widow

The MCU return to box office last a week at the top (so far) as the Scarlett Johansson starring movie srop to number 2 with $26.2 Million, a 67% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken $132 Million over 2 weekends and is the third top movie of 2021 in North America.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions

Making its debut at number 3 this weekend is a sequel movie which has had little buzz, Escape Room was released in 2019 and took a decent $57 Million over its US run.

The Adam Robitel directed sequel makes its debut with $8.8 Million.

Fast & Furious 9

Falling to number 4 this weekend is The Fast Saga's latest instalment which takes $7.6 Million, a slim 20% drop from last weekend, for a total os $154.8 Million after 4 weeks, and the second top movie of 2021.

The Boss Baby 2

Animated movies have done well during the pandemic but this movie seems to have been overlooked by audiences as the sequel movie falls to 5 with a gross of $7.6 Million, a 30% drop, giving it $154.8 Million after 4 weeks of release.

The MCU take a second weekend at the top of the global box office as Black Widow remains at number 1, but Space Jam: A New Legacy makes a strong challenge for the top on its second weekend.

The Space Jam sequel is the real top new movie at number 2, although it did get a release in Russia last week where is took $194,073, which makes Chinese movie The Day We Lit Up the Sky the top new movie making its debut at number 6 this weekend with $11.8 Million.

The Marvel movie which got delayed due to the pandemic remains at the top of the global box office this weekend with a gros of $56.1 Million from 49 territories, a large 65% drop from last weekend.

This gives the Scarlett Johansson starring movie a $264 Million total after 2 weeks of release.

Space Jam: A New Legacy

In reality the top new movie of the weekend but a Russian release last weekend means it actually climbs to number 2 with $54.6 Million from a huge 65 countries.

This gives the movie a total gross of $54.8 Million after 2 weeks of release.

Chinese Doctors

Falling to number 3 this weekend is the Chinese drama which takes $43.9 Million from just 1 country, only an 18% drop over last weekend.

The movie has taken a very respectable $136 Million take after 2 weeks.

Fast & Furious 9

Highest grossing movie on the global box office at the moment, The Fast Sage movie takes $36.2 Million, a 32% increase over last weekend, from 58 countries for a $591.2 Million total after 9 weeks.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions

Released in a few countries last weekend, the horror sequel makes its top 10 debut this weekend with $12.2 Million, 93% higher than last week, from 19 countries, giving the movie a $13.3 Million total to date.

Is it a sequel or a remake? 24 years after the original Space Jam which starred Micheal Jordon comes the follow up which has been given a U rating in the UK by the BBFC.

The movie stars among other basketball legend LeBron James and Boogie Nights star Don Cheadle.

The movie is directed by Malcolm D. Lee who also directed The Best Man from 1999.
