This week in the UK Marvel/Disney's new franchise made its mark by debuting at the top of the box office at the top.

The tiny superhero had a debut weekend gross of £4 million from 555 sites, below other Marvel superhero films but for one of the less known characters and a new franchise a good opening.

A decent run over the school summer holidays could see a total gross in the high 20's into low 30 million region.

Falling into second place are the Minions, a £2.7 million gross has extended their total to £32 million, with plenty more to go over the summer this could be one of the highest grossers of the year.

Andr� Rieu's 2015 Maastricht Concert also makes an appearance in the top 5 this week with a followup to the 2014 concert of the same name.

Indian film Bajrangi Bhaijaan and The Gallows also make appearances in the top 10 at 7 and 9 respectively.

A year ago - Dawn of The Planet of The Apes made it's debut on the UK box office at the top knocking down How to Train Your Dragon 2 into the runner up spot.

Five years ago - Christoper Nolan's Inception made it's mark on the box office debuting at the top while The Twilight Saga: Eclipse fell to number 3

Ten years ago - Madagascar made its way to the top of the UK box office knocking War of The Worlds to number 2 after 2 weeks at the top.

Fifteen years ago - Chicken Run continued its run at the top while The Patriot made its debut at number 3.

This week At the UK box office the little yellow Minions held off the highest new film quite comfortably to gain a second week a the top.

With a £4.15 million weekend the Minions has brought its total gross to £27.6 million, which ahead of both of the Despicable Me film from the same series.

Rolling into second place is Ted 2, Ted was a massive surprise hit back in 2012 taking nearly £12 million on it's opening weekend, Ted 2 has taken £3.8 on it's debut and will struggle to get over £10 million in total.

Other new films this week are Love and Mercy at number 9 and Song of The Sea at number 10.

Fifteen years ago - Chicken Run continued to dominate the box office at the top while this highest new entry was at number 3 in the shape of The Patriot.

Twenty years ago - The Batman franchise was still thriving and Batman Forever entered the box office at the top, First Knight fell to number 2.

Twenty Five years ago - Back to The Future Part III was entering at the top while Dick tracy fell to number 2.

The threat of the terminator posed no challenge for the Minions this week as the little green beings held on to the top spot with relative ease.

A second week at the top and a weekend gross of £6.2 million brings the total gross of the animated film to £20.9 million after 10 days of release.

Highest new entry of the week is Mr Schwarzenegger's return to the franchise which made him a star, Terminator.

Terminator Genisys enters the chart at number 2 with a weekend gross of £3.7 million, a little low maybe for a highly anticipated film such as this.

In comparison Terminator Salvation made £6.9 million on its debut, Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines took £6.08 million on its debut, so Genisys is running at half those two films.

Jurassic World continues to pull in the numbers and this week brings its total to £53 million.

Other new film this week are Magic Mike XXL at 4, documentary Amy at 5, with £523,192 the highest new entry for a documentary in the UK and Guillaume Tell Royal Opera House at 8.

Five years ago - Shrek Forever After was the highest new film of the week and the new number 1, it knocked Killers from the top spot after only a week.

Ten years ago - Stephen Spielbergs War of The Worlds was the top film on it's debut, it knocked Batman Begins from the top spot.

Fifteen years ago - Chicken Run made its debut at the top of the box office, it finally knocked Gladiator from the top.
