It's time for another catalogue film to hit the top of the UK box office as England comes out of lockdown and cinemas slowly start to open again, 231 cinemas made up this weeks box office.

Elf was first released in the UK at the beginning of December 2003, it never hit the top then spending 4 weeks in the runner up spot, exactly 17 years later the movie get to the top.

Highest new movie of the week is a new telling of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol while outside the top 5 Katherine Jenkins Christmas Spectacular makes a debut at number 10, director Rob Savage's move Host is new at 14 and the re-edit of The Godfather Part III is new at 15.

After 17 years director Jon Favreau's festival favourite hits the top of the UK box office, albeit under strange circumstances, with a weekend gross of £48,244, a 97% increase from last weekend.

The big increase from last weekend is due to the increased number of cinemas that have re-opened, but the movie has taken a total of £17 Million since its release in 2003.

Home Alone

The Chris Columbus movie falls from the top this week with £36,878, a 93% increase from last weekend!

This pushes the movies total gross to £9.64 Million since its 1990 release.

Wolfwalkers

Highest film of the weeks that is not a re-release is this animation from directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart which takes £26,171, a 94% increase over last weekend.

The movie has now taken £74,874 since its release 4 weeks ago.

A Christmas Carol

Highest new movie of the week lands at number 4, a re-telling of the classic Christmas story, this time directed by Jacqui Morris and starring Simon Russell Beale and Martin Freeman.

The film takes £22,366 on its debut weekend of release.

Two By Two: Overboard!

Finally on the top 5 is the former number 1 movies which takes £21,952 on its 7th weekend of release giving the animated take a total gross of £1 Million, it finally made it over the Million line!

With only 30 cinemas open in the whole of the UK anything can happen, and this week the 30 year old favourite Christmas movie Home Alone is the anything that can happen.

The movie makes its debut on re-entry at the top of the UK box office on a weekend where nothing else new happened and there were no new, new entries!

With cinemas set to open in some English areas by next weekend, and some new releases hitting next weeks chart could look a lot different.

Directed by Chris Columbus and starring a young Macaulay Culkin this holiday favourite was a massive hit in December of 1990 where it was a number 1 movie for 3 weeks.

With only and handful of cinemas open in Scotland and Whales the movie took £2,705 over the weekend.

The film has taken a total of £9.6 Million since its initial release and has spent 28 weeks on the box office.

Honest Thief

The Liam Neeson movie refuses to go away and this week jumps back up to number 2 with £1,963, a 3% increase from last weekend.

6 weeks in and the movie has taken a total of £662,012 at the box office.

The Secret Garden

Dropping to number 3 this week is the adaptation directed by Marc Munden which takes £1,657 over the weekend, a drop of 37%, this gives the movie a £677,429 total after 6 weeks of release.

Two By Two: Overboard!

Dropping from the top this week is the animated sequel which takes £1,599, dropping 55% from last weeks total, this gives the movie a total gross os £996,391 over 6 weeks.

Wolfwalkers

Released at the end of October this animated tale from directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart has been bouncing around the box office for a few weeks now and had disappeared completely, but this week makes a re-entry at number 5.

This weekend it took £1,496 which boosts its total to £37,721 after 3 weeks on the box office since release.
