For the first time on the US box office since Tenet made its debut back in August The Croods: A New Age makes a decent weekend debut.

The release schedule outside the new animated movie is next to nothing and the only other new releases this week are a couple of catalogue movies, the excellent National Lampoons Christmas Vacation at 9 and Disney's Frozen at 12.

The Croods: A New Age

Dreamworks follow up their 2013 movie The Croods which took $187.1 Million at the US box office with this sequel which Universal has released while the pandemic is still causing cinemas to shut their doors.

The movie still manages to take a very good $9.7 Million on its debut weekend which is second only to Tenet in the months since the pandemic effected the box office.

Freaky

Falling from the top after 2 weeks is the Vince Vaughn starring horror/comedy which takes $770,000, a 40% drop from last weekend.

The movie has now grossed $7.01 Million in the US over 3 weeks of release.

The War With Grandpa

Surprise hit on the last few months is the Robert De Niro starring movie which takes $643,937 over the weekend, only 14% down from last week.

The movie is showing incredible staying power and has grosses $17.25 Million over its 8 weeks of release.

Let Him Go

4 weeks on the the Dianne Lane starring movie falls to 4 with $453,000, 37% down, for a total of $8.73 Million after 4 weeks.

Come Play

Falling to 5 this week is Jacob Chase's horror movie which takes $387,000, 31% down from last weekend, for a $8.83 Million 5 week total.

With no major releases over the last weekend the horror comedy Freaky remained at the top of the US box office for a second weekend.

The highest entry on the chart was the re-release of 1995's The Santa Clause from Disney while the highest new movie of the week was Vanguard at number 7.

Also new this week is The Last Vermeer at number 9 and Gekijouban Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel - III. Spring Song at number 10, while outside the top 10 Buddy Games came in at 13 and The Forgotten Carols at number 15.

Directed by Christopher Landon and starring Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn the horror comedy movie spends its second weekend at the top with a weekend gross of $1.22 Million, a 66% drop from last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross in North America of $5.59 Million after 2 weeks of play.

The War With Grandpa

The surprise hit of late 2020, starring Robert De Niro, climbs back to number 3 as movie takes $733,067 over the weekend, 44% down from last weekend.

This gives the movie a total American gross of $16.18 Million after 7 weeks of release.

Let Him Go

The Kevin Costner former number 1 movie falls to number 3 this weekend with $710,000, 59% drop from last weekend, for a 3 week total of $7.92 Million.

Come Play

Another former number 1 movie remaining at number 4 this week takes $550,000 for the weekend, 49% down, for a total of $8.05 Million after 4 weeks.

The Santa Clause

Disney release another of their catalogue movies which makes its way into the top 5, at 5, as the Tim Allen Christmas movie takes $461,000 over the weekend, the movie has taken $145.29 Million since its release in 1995.

With no stability to cinema openings in the US yet the box office is still thin on the ground for big new releases and this week a low budget movie starring Vince Vaughn hits the top on its debut.

Freaky makes its debut at the top knocking Kevin Costner down to number 2, and that about it for this weeks US box office, there is a new re-entry for Marvels Guardians Of The Galaxy at number 7 and Christmas favourite Elf make a re-entry at number 10.

There is actually more excitement outside the top 10 as Come Away with Angelina Jolie is new at 12, Fatman with Mel Gibson is new at 13, cycling drama The Climb is new at 14 and finally Ammonite featuring Kate Winslet is new at 15.

Starring Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn this 'playing for laughs' body swap serial killer movie lands at the top of the US box office with $3.71 Million.

During this time of COVID-19 this seems to be a fairly standard opening gross with the last few number one debuts, Let Him Go, Come Play and Honest Thief, all taking similar figures.

Let Him Go

The Dianne Lane and Kevin Coster starring movie falls from the top to number 2 this weekend with $1.8 Million, a 55% drop from its debut last weekend.

This puts the Thomas Bezucha directed movies total gross at $6.88 Million after 2 weeks of release.

The War With Grandpa

Perhaps this Tim Hill directed movie can be seen as the surprise hit of late 2020 as the movie stays firm at number 3 with $1.32 Million, only a 12% drop from last weekend.

The Robert De Niro movie has now spent 6 weeks on the box office and has grossed $15.22 Million.

Come Play

The Jacob Chase directed horror movie is slipping down the chart and this week is at 4 with $1.1 Million, 39% down from last weekend.

Three weeks in and the movie has taken $7.31 Million, and perhaps its last week on the top 5.

Honest Thief

Still hanging on to its top 5 position, at 5, the Liam Neeson starring thriller takes $800,000 this weekend down 30% from last weekend, the movies new total gross is $12.38 Million after 5 weeks.

This weekend at the US box office Let Him Go hit the top of the US box office on its debut weekend of release pushing last weeks top movie to number 2.

It was a quiet weekend on the box office as cinemas continue to open, then close, then open again in the ever changing circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

Inside the top 15 the original Toy Story was also a new release at number 6 and The Dark And The Wicked made its debut at number 11.

Starring Diane Lane and Kevin Costner this powerful drama hits the top of the US box office on its debut weekend with $4.1 Million.

It is the highest weekend gross for a movie since Tenet was released back in August and perhaps shows sign of a recovering box office.

Come Play

The Jacob Chase made its debut at the top of the box office last weekend but falls to number 2 this weekend with $1.73 Million, down 45% from last weekend.

Post halloween this drop would have been expected but it does push the movies total gross to $5.66 Million after 2 weeks of release.

The War With Grandpa

Still inside the top 3 the Robert De Niro starring movie is at number 3 once again with $1.51 Million which is actually an increase of 16% from last weekend.

After 5 weeks of release the movie has taken a very respectable $13.41 Million at the US box office.

Honest Thief

Falling to number 4 this week is the Liam Neeson starring revenge movie which takes $1.12 Million, 18% down from last weekend.

The movie has now taken $11.16 Million after 4 weeks of release.

Tenet

Christopher Nolan's hit movie falls to number 5 this weekend with $905,000, an increase rom last weekend of 2%.

The movie is the highest grossing film of recent time and has now taken $55.1 Million at the US box office.

The Halloween season hit the box office this weekend and horror movie Come Play makes its debut at the top of the US box office to celebrate.

The only other new release to hit this week box office is right down at number 10 where the movie Spell directed by Mark Tonderai makes its debut.
