This week in the UK Rio 2 makes the big step and flies to the top of the box office chart on it's debut weekend.

It was actually quite quiet this week and Rio 2 takes the crown with a relatively small £2.9 million. The sequel to 2011's Rio, the film enters the top just as the Easter holidays start so expect it to stay for a couple of week.

Last weeks top film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier falls down to 2 this week with £2.8 million taking it's 10 day total to £10.9 million.

Other new films this week are - Noah - Divergent - La Boheme Met Opera 2014 - The Double - Main Tera Hero

This time last year The Croods was still at the top with the highest new film, Dark Skies, entering at 3.

Five years ago Monsters Vs Aliens entered the box office at the top with The Boat that Rocks not far behind at 2, the previous weeks number 1, Knowing, fell to 3.

Ten years ago Scooby Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed debuted at the top knocking The Passion of Christ to number 4.

Fifteen years ago The Rugrats Movie was still riding the top keeping Plunkett and Macleane to debut at number 2.

Twenty years ago for the month of April Jim Carey was the big new name on the block with his smash hit movie Ace Ventura Pet Detective taking the monthly top spot.
