After a release last week in some smaller location Despicable Me 3 gets its wider global release and tops the chart in the process.

Diminishing returns for the series means the third film gets the lowest wide release of the series but it still manages a $171 million for the week from 53 countries.

This brings the films total global gross to $192.3 million, well below the other films in the series and with Despicable Me 2 grossing just under a billion dollars and Minions taking $1.1 billion this one could fall way short.

Transformers: The Last Knight made its debut at the top last week but this week falls to number 2, small $85 million week gross from 45 countries takes the films total to $429.9 million.

Baby Driver this week goes to 17 countries sits at number 4 with $27.8 million which brings the films total gross to $36.8 million.

Highest new film of the week is The House starring Will Farrell and Amy Poehler which debuts at 9 with $11.7 million from 21 countries.

Wonder Woman is the top total grossing film of the week, currently at number 3 its taken $707.9 million in world grosses.

This week we finally see the full release of Transformers: Age of Extinction and How to Train Your Dragon 2, and predictable they dominate the upper end of the box office chart.

Taking the top spot is the 4th in the Transformers series of movies from director Michael. The film had previews last weekend and takes the number 1 position with ease this week grossing £11.7 million in the process, it is the biggest grossing opening weekend of the year so far.

It's interesting to note this opening gross does include the £8 million from last weeks preview screenings, a £3 - 4 million is a closer opening weekend figure.

Opening in second place after going on general release is How to Train Your Dragon 2 which also includes money from it's previews over the last 3 or 4 weeks.

Falling to third this week is last weeks top film Mrs. Brown's Boy's D'Movie which after 3 weeks has grossed £11.8 million.

There were a number of other new film this which included - Begin Again at 5 - Boyhood at 7 - Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania at 12

Last year at the box office Monsters University opened at the top of the chart knocking Despicable Me 2 into second place after 2 weeks at the top.

Five years ago Sasha Baron Cohen opened at the top with Bruno which knocked Ice Age: Dawn of The Dinosaurs to second place.

Ten years ago Shrek 2 held on tight at the top for another week keeping Around the World in 80 Days in second place for it's debut.

Fifteen years ago there was little change at the top with The Mummy retaining it's lead for a second week, highest new film was 10 Things I Hate About You at 5.

As expected the movie version of Mrs. Browns Boys took the top spot at the UK box office, and with quite a strong margin over the rest.

On it's debut weekend Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie took an incredible £4.3 million, far higher than expected and proving that the Irish sit-com has quite a following.

I suspect that this is a fairly front loaded event and we could see it fall quite sharply, I dont think it has the lasting appeal of movie like The Inbetweeners Movie.

Falling to the runner up spot this week is The Fault in our stars which made £1.7 million from the weekend bringing it's 10 day gross to £6.7 million.

Other new film to chart this week are: - Chef at 5 - How to Train Your Drans 2 (still only on previews) at 6 - Walking on Sunshine at 7 - Cold in July at 11 - Ek Villain at 12 - Punjab 1984 at 13

This time last year Despicable Me 2 hit the top of the box office on it's debut week of release, it would go on to be the top film in the UK of 2013, it knocked Man of Steel into 2nd place.

Five years ago Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was still the top film in the UK and Year One with Jack Black was the highest new film at 3.

Ten years ago it was still Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the top while the top new film of the week was Tom Hanks on Lady Killers at 4.

Fifteen years ago Brendan Fraser made a big screen comeback in The Mummy which debuted at the top of the box office knocking The Matrix into the runner up spot after only a week.

Les Misérables has held on for most of the year with it's UK gross of £40.5 million to be the top film of 2013 but animated film Despicable Me 2 has just taken over.

Were well into the school summer holidays and as of this week the Steve Carroll film is number 11 on the weekly chart with £40.8 million total.

With a few weeks of the holiday still left I'd not be surprised to see this rise even further.

The heat wave the UK is experiencing largely kept audiences away from cinemas over the weekend and for a week with 2 big releases nothing did that well at the box office.

Monsters University was the champion debuting in the top spot but it's £3.46 million gross is way lower than expected.

Despicable Me 2 drops to second place with £2.22 million and second highest new entry Pacific Rim has come up very close behind with £2.19 million. Inline with my predictions Monsters University debut at the top, although I predicted the highest debut weekend of the year and it fell short by £8 million and Pacific Rim did debut in third.

Last year Ice Ace Continental Drift finally for a national release after a couple of weeks on limited and went back to the top of the box office with £10 million knocking The Amazing Spider-Man from the top after a single week.

Highest new film (of sorts) was Magic Mike at 3.

Five years ago Mamma Mia! stormed the box office on it's debut weekend taking the top spot from Hancock which fell to runner up spot. Mamma Mia would go on to be the highest grossing film in the UK for a short time.

Ten years ago Charlie's Angels Full Throttle was still at the top with Daddy Daycare being the highest new film at 3.

Fifteen years ago Six Days Seven Nights was the top film with Mad City the highest debut at 6.
