Released in the UK this weekend, Friday, 24th September 2021, there are 3 new releases looking to take your attention and where available could hit your local cinema and try and replace Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings from the top of the UK box office.

• The movie is directed by Alan Taylor, it is the directors 7th movie.

• It stars Michael Gandolfini who also starred in Cherry (2021).
• The film also stars Jon Bernthal who last appeared in Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021).
• Box office prediction: Number 3

The Green Knight

• The movie is directed by David Lowery, it is the directors 9th movie.
• David Lowery also directed A Ghost Story in 2017 which grossed £133.9K in the UK.
• It stars Dev Patel who also starred in The Personal History of David Copperfield (2020).
• The film also stars Alicia Vikander who last appeared in Anthropocene the Human Epoch (2018).
• Box office prediction: Number 8

Oasis Knebworth 1996

• The movie is directed by Jake Scott, it is the directors 4th movie.
• Jake Scott also directed Welcome to the Rileys in 2011 which grossed £517 in the UK.
• It stars Liam Gallagher who also starred in Liam Gallagher: As It Was (2019).
• The film also stars Noel Gallagher who last appeared in Gorillaz: Reject False Icons (2019).
• Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher have starred in 3 movies together.
• They also appeared together in Blur No Distance Left to Run (2010).
• Box office prediction: Number 7

Warner Bros. release a new trailer for their tentpole film Tenet which is directed by Christopher Nolan, the film is currently set for a July 17th release.

The movie looks like a fantastic sci-fi movie in the typical Christopher Nolan vein of through provoking and head scratching excellence, the movie stars a whole host of big names like John David Washingtonm, Robert Pattinson, Kenneth Branagh and of course Michael Caine.

With cinemas currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic there is no decision yet on when they will reopen, so although there is no change of release Warner Bros. may yet move it to later in the year.

This will be a shame as the cinema chains are in some ways waiting for a big blockbuster before reopeneing, although at the moment local authorities are looking at how people can social distance inside a movie theatre before allowing them to open their box office again.

If the movie does get released it will kick off the movie season with Wonder Woman 1984, Mulan, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run and Bill And Ted Face The Music following close on its heels .

There is still doubt if the public will 'risk' going to the cinema when things first start opening up again but Tenet is currently set to be the first test things out.

Still enjoy the trailer as its the first sight of a new film we've had in a while.

Kenneth Branagh this week scores another number one film with his take on the Agatha Christie classic Murder On The Orient Express, and in turn knock an old friend from the top of the box office.

Directed by and starring Branagh along with a whole host of other big names like Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer and Johnny Depp the film makes its debut with a respectable £4.9 million.

This already makes it his 4th most successful film as a director and by the end of its run it will be most likely 3rd with just Thor and Cinderella out doing it.

As just mentioned Branagh directed the first in the Thor series of films as by coincidence his new film knocks the latest Thor from the top spot.

Thor Ragnarok this week falls only to number 2, and it gave Murder On The Orient Express a good run for its money as it comes in with £4.6 million which brings the total gross to £20 million and its now the most successful Thor film in the UK.

Thor Ragnarok is still pulling in the audience and on a Monday to Sunday bases it would have by a long distance been the top film of the week taking in £8.1 million.

Also new this week is A Bad Moms Christmas which despite trying to celebrate Christmas in November, far too early, takes in £1.7 million at number 3.

Pokémon The Movie I Choose You and The Killing of the Sacred Deer are also new at numbers 9 and 10 respectively.

Kingsman The Golden Circle is the top total grossing movie this week with £24 million and the longest running film with 7 weeks on the chart.

Historical charts

A year ago - Doctor Strange kept its hold on the box office by staying at the top while top new film was the Ben Affleck starring The Accountant.

Five years ago - Skyfall was still the top film of the week while the top new film was Silent Hill Revelation (in 3D, it was Halloween!) which entered at 3.

Ten years ago - Ratatouille spent a 4th week at the top while 30 Days of Night from director David Slade was the top new film at 2.

Fifteen years ago - Sequel movie 28 Days Later was the top new film of the week making its debut at number 1, it knocked off XXX which fell to 2 after 2 weeks on top.

Twenty years ago - The Full Monty remained at the top on its 10th weekend, although not all of them had been at the top, highest new entry was LA Confidential at number 2.

Twenty five years ago - Beauty And The Beast spent its fourth weekend at the top while the highest new film was Boomerang starring Eddie Murphy at number 2.

It has all the hallmarks of a tense exciting teaser trailer, the first glimpses of the new Star Trek reboot movie, Into Darkness shows us how chaotic the film might be.

Among the highlights are a wonderful Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid moment, some excellent shots of the Starship Enterprise, and it looks like were going to get it crashing into water, and above all else every looking into the distance with a look of shock on their faces.

The narration by Benedict Cumberbatch is chilling and I think there might be a lot of explosions in this film, and as suggested by the teaser poster released earlier in the week, were going to be more grounded this time.
