You may have missed this but yesterday, June 8th, is considered by fans of the series as Ghostbusters day, marked on that day as the original movie was released on this day in North America.
Jason Reitman, director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife and son of the original director Ivan Reitman, during a celebration marking the event, announced officially that a fourth (or fifth depending how you count!) is in the works.
The movie will be code named Firehouse, and who knows this could be the title eventually, after in infamous HQ of the Ghostbusters in the original movie, which can be seen being bought by Ernie Hudsons character Winston Zeddemore in Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
The last time we saw Ecto-1, it was driving back into Manhattan: the home of Ghostbusters. Thats where our story begins. The code name is FIREHOUSE. -@JasonReitman, @GilKenan #GhostbustersDay pic.twitter.com/P3QRild2Vs
— Ghostbusters (@Ghostbusters) June 9, 2022
At an event on Wednesday Reitman said he has just started working on a script with Gil Kenan, his co-writer on Afterlife.
Here are the highlights of the announcement
No word yet on any other returning characters but Dan Aykroyd praised Afterlife a lot so an appearance from him is likely and Bill Murray seems to have buried him Ghostbusters demons so thats also likely.
Sigourney Weaver appeared in a weird cameo in Afterlife so its likely she may return, and Annie Potts could do with wrapping her story up, and even a cameo from Rick Moranis would be a treat.
No word on release or production dates but no doubt were looking at something like June 2024 which would nicely tie in with the 40th anniversary of the original Ghostbusters.
Now where is that sequel to the 2016 Ghostbusters~2016 movie we are all waiting for!

As expected the country went crazy for the first solo Batman movie in a while, and the reviews were very favourable for Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader.
The movie made its debut with a weekend gross of £13.5 Million, this makes it the 50th top opening weekend ever in the UK.
It will no doubt get into the top grossing movie of all time in the UK but until then it is at least the 5th top grossing movie of 2022 on its debut with the possibility of jumping into the top 3 by next weekend.
The road ahead looks good until the end of March/beginning of April when there is a double big release of Morbius and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Tom Holland drops to number 2 this weekend with the video game adaptation which spent 3 weeks at number 1, this week it takes £1.3 Million, a hefty 57% drop over last weekend.

The movie also takes the honor this weekend of the highest grossing movie based on a video game, taking over from Sonic the Hedgehog.
The mega smash animated sequel this weekend takes £1.03 Million as it drops to number 3, a big 61% drop on its 6th weekend of release.
It has now taken £30 Million in the UK as marks a new milestone in box office takings, it also is the top grossing movie, so far, of 2022.

Director Denis Villeneuve brings his vision of the classic Frank Herbert sci-fi noval to the big screen after a delay of a year and hit the top, de-throning Bond in the process.
The movie takes a very respectable £5.8 Million in the UK on its debut, which compared to movie this year since cinemas re-opened is good with only No Time To Die doing better, as you would expect.
The movie has potential limited appeal altohugh David Lynches 1984 version of the movie has created a large audience over the nearly 40 years since release who will be keen to see this version, but No Time To Die could reclaim the top for a weekend before the release of Eternals on 5th November.
The 25th Bond movie spent 3 weeks at the top before being taken by Dune and this week is at number 2 with a weekend gross of £4.6 Million, a 44% drop over last weekend.
The movie has certainly brought people back to the cinema and has taken a massive £78 Million to date and has sold over 12.5 Million cinema tickets.
The movie is by far the top movie of 2021 in the UK, and I doubt Eternals or Spider-Man: No Way Home will overtake it and I think The Matrix Resurrections
is released too late in the year.It is also the 8th top movie of all time in the UK and will most likely enter the top 5 by next weekend.
The superhero villain movie falls to number 3 this weekend with £2.4 Million on its second weekend of release, a 60% drop over last week.
This gives the film a total UK gross of £11.1 Million after 10 days, which puts it just behind 2018's Venom.
The animated sequel makes its debut at number 4 this weekend with a gross of £1.2 Million, which is way behind the orinal The Boss Baby from 2017.
That movie, which was released in the April of 2017, had a number 1 debut with £8 Million, but after some delays, and little interest in the franchise the sequel has done a fraction of that.
The animated sequel to the much loved TV series falls to number 5 this weekend with £885,404, a small 36% drop over last weekend, this gives the movie a total UK gross of £5.2 Million.

Dune hit UK and US cinemas this weekend and has hit the top spot on both box office charts on its debut, in the UK it took nearly £6 Million while in the US it took over $40 Million.
A sequel has been touted for a while and with the success in cinemas, and no doubt its success on the HBO Max streaming service a sequel became inevitable.
The movie has been out globally for some time and has to date taken over $220 Million.
No release date has been given yet but a 2023 release is most likely. Legendary have given a very quick teaser image though.
