With the summer season just starting we are between blockbusters at the moment and with Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness seemingly set to stay at the top until late May so we get a new release at number 5 with the remake of Firestarter~2022..
World box office top 5 weekend breakdown 13th - 15th May 2022
As with most MCU movie that have such a massive opening weekend the sequel movie to Doctor Strange is no different as it drop 68% on its second weekend.
Still released in 50 countries the movie takes $144.5 Million to give the movie a total $688 Million after 2 weekends of release.
Still sitting at number 2 this weekend after a fairly staggered global release is the animated feature from DreamWorks which is released in 67 countries still and takes $13.6 Million on its 9th weekend.
This only a 20% drop after such a lengthy run at the global box office, it gives the movie a total of $165.5 Million.
The video game based movie climbs back up the global box office one place with the movie showing in 62 countries it takes $9.8 Million over the weekend, a 32% drop.
The movie, which is not the highest grossing video game adapted movie of all time, has taken an amazing $362.8 Million over 7 weeks of release.
Another big fall for the third Fantastic Beasts movie which drop 57% over last weekend from a huge 75 countries.
The weekend gross of the film is $6.3 Million giving it a total global gross of $376 Million.
Highest new entry of the weekend comes in at number 5 as the (pointless!) remake of the 1984 movie Firestarter makes its debut with $5.8 Million from 41 countries.
A new Marvel movie, a new number 1 as Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness hits the top spot on its debit weekend with a debut gross of nearly £20 Million.
There were a number of other new movies this week but at the lower end of the box office with the Event Movie Turnadot: Met Opera 2022 coming in at 9 with £38,527 while Maa is new at 11 with £38,527.
Also making their debut's this weekend Dum Mastam at 12 with £27,162, CBI 5: The Brain makes its way onto the box office at 13 with £26,418 and finally the 50th anniversary re-release of Cabaret is new at 15 with £19,238.
UK box office top 5 weekend breakdown 6th - 8th May 2022
It feels like a story we have told many time, but a new Marvel movie is released and there is a big surge in the box office and we have a massive hit at the top.
The sequel to Doctor Strange has been a long time coming as the original was released in 2016, but the character has appeared in many Marvel film since then, including quite predominantly in last years Spider-Man: No Way Home for which is a spiritual successor.
The movie makes its UK debut with £19.7 Million, a staggering 82% of the box office this weekend, which is £10 Million more than its 2016 predecessor but it is way shorted than the £31.8 Milion of the last Spider-Man movie.
The road ahead is looking good for the movie, it will beat out the DC movie The Batman from earlier this year, and it has a shot at being the top movie of 2022, altohugh there are a number of high profile movie yet to come including Jurassic World: Dominion in June.
The movie already is the 6th top movie of 2022 on its debut and look set to at least climb into the top 3 by next weekend.
A single week at the top for the Downton Abbey sequel which this weekend falls to number 2 with £1.5 Million, a 49% drop over last weekend.

The movie now has a UK total of £23.5 Million and is the 5th top movie of 2022.
The action comedy falls to 4 this weekend with £468,402, a 61% drop over last weekend, this gives the movie an £8.6 Million total after 4 weeks of release.
The third in the Fantastic Beasts series can be seen as nothing but a flop for Warner Bros. as the movie falls to 5 this weekend with £401,448, a 67% drop.
The movie has now taken just £19 Million in the UK over 5 weeks of release, it is the 7th top movie of 2022.
In comparison the previous 2 movies 5 weeks into their box office runs were, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them £45 Million and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald £30.5 Million.
With a new Marvel movie come little else, and so this weekend Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness totally dominated the North American box office and makes its debut at number 1.

This gives the movie a total US gross of $169.9 Million after 5 weeks of release and its the 4th top movie of 2022.
This third in the Fantastic Beasts series falls to number 4 this weekend with $3.9 Million, a big 52% drop over last weekend.
This gives the movie a total North American gross of just $86 Million after 4 weeks of release, and with the movie being considered a flop the question must be asked as to the continuation of the series, it was supposed to be a 5 movie series!

The movie which is directed by Sam Raimi takes over 85% of the global box office takings this weekend with a massive $450 Million weekend gross from 50 countries.
This instantly puts the movie inside the top 5 movies of 2022 at number 4.
The road ahead looks good for the Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen starring movie and thinking it will get to $1 Billion, like its Marvel predecessor Spider-Man: No Way Home would not be wrong.

Director Simon Curtis takes over duties from Michael Engler in the sequel to the aristocratic TV show turned movie series.
Taking £3 Million over the weekend the movie easily takes over from Sonic the hedgehog 2 which returned to the top last weekend.
The movie has not had as good a debut at its predecessor which was released in September 2019 and hit the top with a £5 Million debut, and went on to stay there for 3 weeks, there is a strong suspicion this will be de-throned this coming weekend.
Popularity for the series has waned over the years since the TV show ended but a £10 - 15 Million run is possible for this sequel.
