The movie takes a little over $39 Million on its debut which is higher that the $20.7 Million of the 2005 Tim Burton directed movie.
Prequel movie The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes stays at number 2 this weekend while last weeks top movie The Boy and the Heron falls to number 3 with a weekend gross of $5.1 Million.

Wonka spends a second weekend at the top of the UK box office with a very good £6.3 Million second weekend, a small 29% drop over its debut.
This makes the movie the 13th top film of 2023 with a shot of making it into the top 10 before the end of the year.
The top new movie of the weekend in Godzilla Minus One which comes in at number 2 with a debut gross of £816,891.

This is by far the greatest US opening for a movie from Studio Ghibli who's previous top opening was Ponyo from 2008 which took $3.5 Million on its opening
