What this movie has achieved is quite incredible, it has been on the global box office for just 5 weeks and has taken $844.9 Million, it is the top movie globally of 2021 and yet it has only had a release in China.

To be fair the Chinese cinema has been open all year, unlike many other high grossing cinema territories like North America, United Kingdom, Australia, and I'm sure has these countries been open all year the likes of Fast and Furious 9, Black Widow and No Time To Die would have made over a Billion dollars, but you still can't take away this movies achievement.

North American top 5 box office breakdown 22nd - 24th October 2021

Dune

The movie got delayed by over a year, and after the failure of last years Tenet its wasn;t much of a suprise that Warner Bros. did, but this week the Denis Villeneuve vision of Frank Herbert classic sci-fi, impossible to film, book finally hits the box office.

The movie comes in with a weekend gross of just over $40 Million, potentially lower than expected as the movie is also available on HBO Max, altohugh as Halloween Kills has shown movies can do well as the box office even when on streaming the same day.

The film which stars Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson might have a short stay at the top but the response has been god enough that a sequel is almost guaranteed.

Halloween Kills

Hitting the top spot last weekend the movie was always destined for a single weekend at the top and this week takes $14.5 Million on its second weekend of release, a large 71% drop over last weekend, maybe dur to its availability on streaming?

The movie has now taken $73.1 Million at the American box office, and although the movie might get a boost next weekend as its Halloween we should see the movie sink down the box office quite rapidly now.

No Time To Die

Bond movie number 25 has not quite hit the same stride in America as it has across the rest of the world and this week takes $11.8 Million, a 50% drop over last weekend.

The movie has been on the box office for 3 weeks now and has a US total gros of $120 Million making it the 7th top movie of 2021.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The superhero villain smash hit sequel falls to number 4 this weekend with $9.1 Million, a modest 45% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross of $181.8 Million, very good for a sequel and its running almost parellel with its predecessor, the movie is now the 3rd top movie of 2021.

Ron's Gone Wrong

The new animated movie from directors Sarah Smith, who brought us Arthur Christmas and Jean-Philippe Vine makes its debut at number 5 this week with $7.3 Million.

The 2021 version of Dune, which got a release across some of the world a few weeks ago, get released in many major countries this weekend and in the process goes to the top of the global box office.
