Although the anticipation for the new Disney film Moana is quite high its not enough to knock off the three time champion Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Fantastic Beast stays put at the top of the Uk box office for its third straight week with an amazing weekend gross of £4.4 million, this brings the films total gross to £37.8 million.

There should be one more weekend at the top for Beast before the Galaxy Far Far Away comes blasting in, but that should be enough to cement the film as one of the years top films.

The film still has a way to go before beating the lowest grossing Potter film which was 2004's Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban which made £45.6 million.

Highest new film of the week then come in at 2, Moana from Disney makes £2.2 million on its UK debut.

Compared to Frozen from Disney which came out at the same time of year in 2013 this is half its debut gross of £4.7 million hence we probably wont see this scaling those heights.

Also new this week is Sully at number 3 with £1.7 million, Pitbull. Niebezpieczne Kobiety at number 5 with £0.4 million, The Edge of Seventeen at 9 with £0.27 million and Bleed For This at number 10 with £0.25 million.

Highest total grossing movie this week is Fantastic beasts and longest run on the box office is Trolls which has been around now for 7 weeks.

A £15 million debut is nothing to be sniffed at, and it is the 20 top opening in the UK ever, but only 2005's Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire scored a lower opening of the Potter series.

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban from 2004 was the biggest Potter opening with £23.8 million on its debut and is the 3rd top opening ever in the UK.

Fantastic Beasts has some big shoes to fill and with the very favourable reviews it could be a long and slow burner, but in less than 4 weeks Star Wars does the same and expands its universe which will have a knock on effect.

Arrival entered the box office at number 1 last week and falls to number 2 this week with £1.5 million which brings its total to £5.7 million after 10 days of play, its should overtake Prisoners as director Denis Villeneuve top film.

Only one other new entry this week, Andre Rieu Christmas With Andre, and event cinema, at number 4, it took just over £1 million.

Bridget Jones's Baby was once again the longest running film on the chart at 10 weeks and the top total grossing move with £47 million.

Its been an interesting week in the UK with the release of the latest James Bond movie Spectre, most unusual of all is that the film got its release after its UK premiere on Monday night rather than the usual Friday.

This opening meant that its weekend figures, although fantastic, were not a true reflection of the usual take on a debut weekend.

To cut a long story short Spectre has done amazingly well, it has the largest UK opening of any film, beating Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban 10 year record by nearly double, it also has the biggest single day gross for any film in the UK, Tuesday and in fact Wednesday.

The films weekly take, from its opening on Monday through to Sunday was £41.3 million, not only the highest ever but also higher than the previous Bond outing Skyfall, which is the highest grossing film ever in the UK.

Its Friday to Sunday total is just shy of £20 million which puts it just behind Skyfall, but that film opened on a Friday, its hard not to believe that Spectre wouldn't have beaten all these figure had it opened on the traditional Friday.

Spectre thus makes its debut at the top of the UK box office with an incredible weekly gross and with no film daring to compete with it, it is also the only new entry on the box office this week, and with very few new film in the coming weeks it will stay a while.

All thats left now is for it to become the top grossing film ever in the UK, it needs over £102 million to achieve this, but with the debut it is entirely possible.

Fifteen years ago - Disneys Dinosaur went back to the top of the box office meaning What Lies Beneath fell to number 2, highest new film was Book of Shadows Blair Witch 2.

Twenty years ago - To Die For made its debut at the top of the box office leaving Clueless to fall into second place.

Twenty five years ago - Ghost extended its run at the top of the box office by another week with the highest new film at number 4 in the shape of Goodfellas.

Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie holds on for a second week on top of the UK box office, this week with little competition from the new realises.

Brendan O'Carroll transvestite creation takes a second week gross of £2.2 million which gives it a 10 day gross (2 weekends) of £9.3 million, not bad really.

With little movement on the box office worth mentioning is How To Train Your Dragon 2, still on previews it took £475,270 over the weekend, it has now taken £1.5 million before it's official release on Friday.

Another film doing this is Transformers: Age of Extinction which had previews from Saturday evening and took £s;4.7 million and would have been the top film, this will be added to the opening gross next week so the film WILL be number 1.

Highest new film of the week is Tammy which we all had high hopes for but in the end struggled to get a top 5 entry with £471,429 over the weekend.

The only other new film this week is The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared at 11.

Looking back

Five years ago Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs was the new top film which it did on it's debut week of release.

Ten years ago number one and highest new film was Shrek 2 which knocked Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban from the top.

Fifteen years ago The Mummy was still the top film in the UK while Sean Connery was the highest new entry at 2 with Entrapment.

Twenty yeas ago the original The Flintstones movie was the top film in the country for the month of July knocking Four Weddings and a Funeral from the top.

Twenty five years ago Batman was still the top film for the month of July but Indianan Jones and the Last Crusade and Licence to Kill were doing well.

As expected the movie version of Mrs. Browns Boys took the top spot at the UK box office, and with quite a strong margin over the rest.

On it's debut weekend Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie took an incredible £4.3 million, far higher than expected and proving that the Irish sit-com has quite a following.

I suspect that this is a fairly front loaded event and we could see it fall quite sharply, I dont think it has the lasting appeal of movie like The Inbetweeners Movie.

Falling to the runner up spot this week is The Fault in our stars which made £1.7 million from the weekend bringing it's 10 day gross to £6.7 million.

This time last year Despicable Me 2 hit the top of the box office on it's debut week of release, it would go on to be the top film in the UK of 2013, it knocked Man of Steel into 2nd place.

Five years ago Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was still the top film in the UK and Year One with Jack Black was the highest new film at 3.

Ten years ago it was still Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the top while the top new film of the week was Tom Hanks on Lady Killers at 4.

Fifteen years ago Brendan Fraser made a big screen comeback in The Mummy which debuted at the top of the box office knocking The Matrix into the runner up spot after only a week.
