Here are this weeks new releases
Check back on Monday to see what new movies made it onto the Weekend Box Office Chart.
With the lockdown still effecting the UK and keeping cinemas closed the home video industry is doing very well and this week the release of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker makes a big impact at the top.
The last movie in the Skywalker sage and presented by Lucasfilms and Disney was a controversial movie on its release in December of 2019.
The film did well at the box office in the UK taking £58.2 Million over a 7 week period, the lowest of the Disney produced sequels.
The film hits the home entertainment market last week and took over the top slot.
After taking over a the top last week the Dwayne Johnson starring Fantasy/Comedy movie falls to number 2 on its 3rd week.
The highest new film last week and the speedy blue hedgehog remains in the same place at number 3 this week.
Still doing well on the home entertainment front but the Disney sequel movie falls to number 4 this week on its 5th week of release.
An independent movie directed by Andrew Onwubolu and released in November of 2019 this was a sizeable hit at the box office making its debut at number 3 and going on to take £4.5 Million over 6 weeks.
The movie makes its home entertainment debut at number 5 this week.
Here is the full home entertainment top 10 for week 22nd - 28th April 2020
There were three new entries at the top of this weeks UK box office in the shape of Venom, A Star Is Born and Johnny English Strikes Again, but it was Sony's Villain Hero film which took top honors.
The Tom Hardy starring film dominated what was a busy weekend at the UK box office with an £8 million debut which is good for a Marvel movie in the Spider-Man universe, and only a million off that of Spider-Man Homecoming from last year.
This of course is not from the MCU despite leaning heavily on the look and feel of a typical Marvel film, but as with Suicide Squad from last year this proves that villains can hold their own in a movie despite poor reviews.
The third in the Johnny English series of film and it looks like the Rowan Atkinson starring James Bond Spoof has lost none of its appeal as it makes its debut with £4.1 million which is in the same ball park as the other 2.
Both the other 2 films went on to make in the £20 million region and we would expect this one to do very similar business as its appealing to the same audience, this film has got less favourable reviews though.
It was a very fine margin but Johnny English just beat out A Star Is Born as the Bradley Cooper directed and starring film takes the third spot this week with a £4.1 million debut.
Three weeks on the box office now and the Jack Black starring film takes £900,00 over the weekend to boost its total UK gross to £6.8 million.
Taking a large tumble this week and finishing off the top 5 the Kevin Hart romantic comedy takes £860,000 to boost its 2 week UK gross to £3.1 million.
Having been on the box office for 13 weeks the Pixar animated comedy has taken an incredible £55.7 million making it the third highest grossing film of 2018.
Top films globally in 2017: Beauty and the Beast top the global box office in 2017
2017 at the global box office was a story of remakes, sequels and superheroes where a beauty and a beast in live action was the top film of the year while the 8th Furious film wasn't far behind.
Beauty and the Beast, the live action version, was the top at the global box office during 2017 helping Disney to be, by a long way, the biggest studio of 2017 with 6 of the top 10 films coming from the mouse house.
Universal also did well in the runner up spot with Fast and Furious 8 and Despicable Me 3 at 2 and 3 as the long established series bucked a trend of diminished returns for sequels throughout the year.
Warner did well with the DC cinematic universe and the horror hit IT filling in the lower end of the list although Justice League failed to make the top 10 (although it is still on general release at the end of 2017).
Here is the top 10 films of 2017 across the globe.
For the second week there was no stopping blockbuster IT as its makes a global gross of $120.3 million from 57 countries to remain on top.
The Stephen King adaptation from Warner Bros. is doing great business at the world box office and has now taken $371.3 million in total and should get to $500 million easily.
War For the Planet of The Apes opened in China this last week and did great business pushing the film back to number 2 with a weekly global gross of $63.2 million from 22 countries.
The film has been around a while now and is just shy of the half billion mark in global grosses with $433.7 million.
Highest new film of the week is American Assassin which makes its debut at number 3 this week with $21 million from 42 countries.
top total grossing movie on the top 10 this week is Spider-Man Homecoming which this week takes its total global gross to $861.2 million after a $16 million week from 44 countries.
