  5. Little Women
  6. The Call Of The Wild

  9. Jumanji: The Next Level
  10. Jojo Rabbit

With the release of a new Star Wars film we get a new number 1 film, but The Rise Of Skywalker disappoints a bit on its debut weekend while Cats is a major disappointment at 4.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The last of the sequel trilogy and the last of the Skywalker saga for arguably the best series of films ever created makes its way to the top of the US box office with ease, but its $175.5 Million debut of far lower than expected.

The film is the 12th highest opening film ever in the US, but its lower than Star Wars: The Last Jedi which has a bad reception from fans and far lower than Star Wars: The Force Awakens which is loved by fans.

The road ahead could be good for the movie though as films released around Christmas tend to have good legs, but critical reviews and fans alike have given the movie a mixed reception, in truth are we fed up with Star Wars movies?

Jumanji: The Next Level

The sequel to the 2017 mega smash falls to number 2 this weekend from its debut last week at the top with a gross of $26.1 Million which brings its total to $101.9 Million after 2 weeks.

Frozen II

Disney continue to push their sequel movie which can not officially be called a smash hit, the film falls to number 3 this week with $12.3 Million but ots total gross os $385.5 Million after 5 weeks of release.

Cats

There were high expectations for this big screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webbers hit stage musical but the film nearly died the moment the first trailer hit.

The movie ends up at number 4 this week with a total debut gross of $6.5 Million, and with critics panning the film as well as the movie going public the future looks grim for the Tom Hooper directed feature.

Knives Out

Rian Johnsons star studded murder mystery has done well on the box office, it falls to 5 this weekend with $6.1 Million for a 4 week total of $89.5 Million.

Parasite

Notching up 11 weeks on the box office now the Chinese hit movie is the longest running film on the US box office, while Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker instantly becomes the highest grossing movie on its debut.

Based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats has been given a U age rating in the UK.

starring a host of big names including James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen and Taylor Swift, to name a few, this is an all singing all dancing tale with the actors CGI'd as cats.

The film is being brought to by director Tom Hooper who previously brought us The Kings Speech so it has a good pedigree and has a change to capture magic of the stage version.

The BBFC have given the film a U rating for very mild threat, rude humour, language and it has a runtime of 109 minutes (1 hours 49 minutes) and was passed uncut.

The film is released on 20th December 2019.

Produced and written by Andrew Lloyd Webber the stage version of Cats has been a massive hit across the globe, and today we get the first trailer for the big screen adaptation.

Directed by Tom Hooper who brought the hit musical Les Misrables to the big screen the film stars the likes of Dame Judy Dench and Sir Ian McKellen to name but a few in the star studded cast.

It looks like a very faithful version of the stage show is being brought to the screen and as the trailer demonstrates all your favourite songs will be present and correct.

With a release date of December 20th Christmas will be all about Cats as well as the Galaxy Far Far Away.

Check out the trailer below.

This weeks UK Box Office has Les Miserables making it four weeks as the most popular film in the country, not since Avatar in 2010 has a film spent more than 3 weeks at the top.

The top new film landed (pun intended) at 3, Denzel Washington stars and is Oscar nominated for his portrayal of an airline pilot with a drinking problem. Flight takes £1.7 million over the weekend.

Flight is having a battle with Lincoln for 3rd place and might end up in fourth by the time final figures are counted.

This time last year Chronicle was the top film of the week and the highest new film debuting at number 1 with £2.2 million, the previous weeks top film, War Horse was knocked to 4th place.

Five years ago it was all change as well as man of the moment, director J.J. Abram's this time on production duties, took Clover field to the top on it's debut with £3.4 million.

Ten years ago Spielberg was a the top with Hanks and DiCaprio and Catch Me If You can with debuted with £3.7 million.
