After a 4 week run at the top of the UK box office The Super Mario Bros. Movie is knocked off by the latest MCU movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, but its not all good news as the threequel does not take as much as the sequel movie on its debut.
With such a bit movie getting its debut the studios cleared the schedule for a couple of weeks to give it time to breath, there were a couple of other new movies though, Jodi was new at 9 with £88,045 while Return to Seoul came in at 10 with £75,273.
Meanwhile outside the top 10 2018 came in at 13 with £52,211.

Despite the hype, and generally good reviews the new Guardians of the Galaxy made its debut will less than that of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, which is perhaps another sign that superhero fatigue is creeping in, something which director James Gunn has mentioned in the past.
That said the movie did debut at the top of the chart, knocking off The Super Mario Bros. Movie and is the 8th top grossing movie ever in the month of May.
After spending 4 weeks at the top the Nintendo video game adaptation falls just a single place to number 2 this weekend with a £1.3 Million gross
The movie is the top grossing movie of 2023 so far and is looking to top £50 Million by next weekend.
The Evil Dead sequel movie seems to be pleasing movie goers in the UK as the horror movie takes nearly £500,000 on its third weekend of release.
The British produces movie starring Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton falls to number 4 on its second weekend of release with a £336,519 gross.
Going back up the box office to number 5 is the former number 1 John Wick sequel which has a total UK gross of £17 Million after 7 weeks of release.
The shining star of the MCU might seemingly be starting to fade, but with the relese of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 we get a new number one movie with a debut gross of $114 Million.
This is lower that the second movie in the series but a bit higher than Guardians of the Galaxy from 2014, time will tell how the movie does long term.
After an amazing 4 weeks at the top The Super Mario Bros. Movie drop to number 2 with a weekend gross of $18.6 Million taking its US gross to over the $500 Million milestone, making it the 19th top grossing movie ever in the US.
Doing better than anyone could have expected horror movie Evil Dead Rise is at 3 this weekend with $5.7 Million taking its total gross to $54 Million after 3 weeks.
Outside the top 5 there is a new entry for Love Again~2023 at 6 with $2.1 Million while the rest of the top 15 is dominated by holdover movies.

For potentially one last weekend The Super Mario Bros. Movie hangs onto the top slot, a place it has been for 4 weeks taking a further $40 Million to push its gross to nearly $500 Million.
Next weekend sees the release of the next Marvel movie which should, with ease, top the box office.
The highest new movie of the weekend makes its debut at 3 in that shape of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret which takes $6.8 Million on its debut.
A release to celebrate 40 years since it first appeared in cinemas has Star Wars: Return of the Jedi making a new entry at number 5 with $4.7 Million.
Further down the box office there is a new entry for Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two which takes $3.8 Million at number 8 and Sisu is new at 10 with $3.2 Million.
Outside the top 10 there is a new entry for Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World at 11 with $3 Million and the British movie Polite Society which slides in at 15 with $800,000.

The top new movie of the weekend is Evil Dead Rise, a successor, of sorts, to Army of Darkness. The movie looks set to spark a new era in the long running series which original director Sam Raimi has expressed an interest in returning to.
Director Guy Ritchies new movie The Covenant~2023 is a new entry at number 3, starring Jake Gyllenhaal the movie takes $6 Million on its debut.
John Wick: Chapter 4 drops to number 4 this weekend and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves drop to 5 while Chevalier~2022 is new at 11 with $1.5 Million and Somewhere In Queens is at 12 with $681,770.

The animated movie remains at number 1 this weekend with £4 Million which takes its total UK gross to £41.6 Million as the movie continues to do bug business at cinemas.

The last Evil Dead movie, not counting the remake from 2013, came out in 1993.
Falling to number 3 this week is the board game adaptation which has taken £11 Million in the UK so far.
Still hanging on to a top 5 place is the sequel movie to the John Wick series which has taken £15 Million to date.
The Ben Affleck directed movie falls to number 5 this weekend with a gross of half a million on its 3rd weekend of release.
