News from around the web

There is no stopping 1917 at the current box office as the movie reamins at the top of the UK box office with a massive margin again leaving the Bad Boys to spend a second weekend at number 2 while The Personal History Of David Copperfield is the top new film at number 3.

1917

Sam Mandes war drama remains at the top of the UK box office for a third weekend with another massive gross of £4.5 Million.

This gives the film a total UK gross of £26.3 Million making it by far the top grossing film so far in 2020.

And just for the record it is now the top grossing film in the UK for Sam Mendes that isn't a Bond movie, and the film wont get anywhere near the total gross of those two films.

Bad Boys For Life

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have to settle for second place again this week as the movie takes £2.7 Million over the weekend.

This brings the sequel movie's total UK gross to £8.2 Million after 2 weeks of release.

The Personal History of David Copperfield

Highest new film of the weekend with a UK debut gross of £1.5 Million.

The film stars Dev Patel, Peter Capaldi and Hugh Laurie who are long term favourite actors in the UK and the film could hang around for some time to come.

Little Women

The Oscar nominated movie directed by Greta Gerwig is at number 4 this weekend with a gross of £1 Million.

This gives the Saoirse Ronan and Emma Watson starring movie a total gross of £18.4 Million after 5 weeks of release.

Jumanji: The Next Level

The sequel movie makes just under a million pound this weekend to give the film a toal UK gros of £33.5 Million over 7 weeks of release.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The highest total grossing movie of the week for the Star Wars sequel movie as its gross grows to £57.3 Million after 6 weeks of release.

Frozen II

Disney's sequel movie has the longest run on this weeks box office as the film spends a 10th weekend on the box office.

As expected the anticipation for Avengers: Endgame spilled over this weekend and the Marvel film broke records all over the place on its debut weekend leaving every other film on release to mop up the tiny remainder of box office cash.

Avengers: Endgame

The Marvel film was expected to open big but perhaps no-one expected it to open quite this big as the much hyped and anticipated film broke the box office opening weekend record, set by Avengers: Infinity War, and became the first film to ever open with over a billion dollars on global takings.

The film took an unprecedented, and benchmark setting, $1.2 Billion from 55 countries over its first weekend, which including previews did extend to 5 days, but still to enter the Billion dollar club so quick is a new record.

The film is already the 13th highest grossing film of all time globally, and by next weekend will most likely be in the top 5 which will take a gross of $1.67 Billion or higher.

All eyes will be on the film in the coming weeks to see if can beat the 10 year old record of Avatar and beat that films $2.7 Billion total gross.

The Curse of La Llorona

Last weeks top film falls to number 2 this week with a global weekend gross of $15.4 Million from 72 countries which pushes its total global gross to $86.9 Million.

Shazam!

The superhero movie from DC and Warner Bros fell to 3 and took $10.9 Million from 81 countries this weekend to push its total to $346.3 Million after 4 weeks of release.

Captain Marvel

The other Marvel film on the global box office this weekend is at 4 this week with $10.1 Million from 46 countries and pushes its total global gross to $1.1 Billion after 9 weeks.

Just for the record Avengers: Endgame beats this total in its first 5 days of release.

Dumbo

Still on the box office and doing well is the Tim Burton movie which this week is at 5 taking $9.6 Million from 52 countries for a $327.6 Million total from 5 weeks of release.

Pororo Treasure Island Adventure

Second highest new film of the week is at number 11 in the shape of this Chinese animation with takes $1.7 Million from just 1 country.
