Sonic the Hedgehog 2

The video game sequel movie climbs back to number 2 this weekend with a take of $34..2 Million from 58 countries, a 38% drop over last weekend.

It was a tight battle at the top this weekend but The Lost City~2022 just about does enough to make its debut at the top of the UK box office.

The Northman also makes a new entry at number 4 while Operation Mincemeat is also new at 5, also making their debuts are K.G.F: Chapter 2 at 7 with £612,327 and Beast~2022 at 8 with £319,464, finally director Paul Verhoeven's Benedetta is new at 11 with £62,056.

  • Highest total gross - The Batman (£40 Million)

UK box office top 5 weekend breakdown 15th - 18th April 2022

The Lost City

After a weekend full of new releases the Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum starring action comedy makes its UK box office debut at the top.

The movie takes £2.7 Million on its UK debut, this higher than Tatums hit movie Dog from earlier this year but half that of Bullocks last cinema film Ocean's 8 from 2018.

The movie has been a hit across the globe with the UK one of the last countries to get the movie, but with a number of high profile movies coming in the next few weeks this could be a short stay for the movie.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

It was a tight margin between this and The Lost City~2022 at number 1 but the third Fantastic Beasts movie fell just short of a second weekend at the top.

With a gross of £2.6 Million, 55% down on its debut last weekend, and despite not doing that bad it is well short of the previous two movies Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the series has simply not had the impact of the Harry Potter series.

The movie is the 7th top grosser of 2022 and there is every possibility it could return to top next weekend.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

THe video game star falls to number 3 this weekend with £2 Million, a 29% drop over last weekend giving the blue hedgehog a total UK gross of £16 Million after 3 weeks and the 5th top movie of 2022.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore makes its debut at the top of the US box office with the lowest debut for the series so far.

Father Stu is also new at number 5 this weekend while Indian movie K.G.F: Chapter 2 is also new at 9 with $2.8 Million.

US box office top 5 weekend breakdown 15th - 18th April 2022

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

This third in the Wizarding World series of movies makes a soft debut at the top of the US box office chart this weekend with $43 Million.

Compared to the last movie in the series Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald this is $20 Million lower and compared to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is it $30 Million lower.

The Fantastic Beasts series has never hit the heights of Harry Potter, but with the controversy and difficult production of this series many critics are declaring this should be the last one and quit while your ahead.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Falling into second place this weekend is the blue video game hedgehog which takes $30 Million on its second weekend of release, a hefty 58% drop over last weekend.

The movie has taken a nice $119.6 Million after 2 weeks of release which is higher than Sonic the Hedgehog from 2020.

The movie is the 4th top movie of 2022 to date.

The Lost City

Falling a single place to 3 this weekend is the Sandra Bullock starring action comedy which takes $6.5 Million this weekend, 29% down.

This takes the movies total gross to $78.5 Million total after 4 weeks and its the 7th top movie of 2022.

Everything Everywhere All At Once

Jumping up the box office to number 4 this weekend after being available in many more cinemas is the Michelle Yeoh starring alternate reality movie which takes $6.1 Million on its 4th weekend, a 2% increase over last week.

This gives the movie a very respectable $17.6 Million total, which could climb higher as it expands to more cinemas and is getting good critical word of mouth.

Father Stu

Finally in the top 5 is another new movie as Mark Wahlberg joins in Daddy's Home 2 co-star Mel Gibson in this comedy which takes $5.7 on its debut weekend.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore goes ultra wide this weekend in 67 countries and climbs to the top of the global box office on its second weekend of release.

  • Longest run - The Batman (7 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - The Batman ($751 Million)

World box office top 5 weekend breakdown 15th - 18th April 2022

The movie takes $114 Million on its second weekend which gives the film a total global gross of $193.4 Million, a 49% increase, a worrying 2 week gross for the troubled Wizarding World series.

The movie is the 9th top film of 2022 so far, but with the mixed critical reviews and tepid word of mouth this could be the first 'flop' for the series.

K.G.F: Chapter 2

A sequel to the 2019 movie K.G.F: Chapter 1 which took $6 Million globally gets released in 19 countries this week and lands on the global box office at number 2 making it the highest new movie.

This gives the movie a total global gross of $231.8 Million after 3 weeks of release and its the 7th top movie of 2022.

The Lost City
