News from around the web

The third SpongeBob movie is a sequel to the TV series and we have been treated to the first trailer.

SpongeBob is 10 and at Kamp Koral and his pet snail Gary has been kidnapped, so Patrick and SpongeBob have to find him!.

The wacky humour of the TV show and films is bound to return, and has this is an origins movie of sorts its gives the film makers a licence to re-purpose some of those favourite old jokes.

This is the third movie based on the character with the last one making nearly £8 Million on the UK and $315 million globally.

Catch the trailer below.

Ever since the first teaser poster for the new Sonic The Hedgehog film was released there has been a lot of anticipation for how the blue speedy mammal will look, and today fans fears were realised.

Today we get the first trailer for the film and Sonic simply does not look like the classic Sega hero from the '90's games that we were expecting, in fact we don't know what he looks like!

The good news is we also get to see Jim Carey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik and although he's not big and round does bring a level of the character to the screen.

Artistic licence does need to be used when bringing a video game character to the screen but we do feel the film makers have not understood the source material, we keep thinking Super Mario Bros. when we watch this.

Check out the trailer below.

Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie holds on for a second week on top of the UK box office, this week with little competition from the new realises.

Brendan O'Carroll transvestite creation takes a second week gross of £2.2 million which gives it a 10 day gross (2 weekends) of £9.3 million, not bad really.

With little movement on the box office worth mentioning is How To Train Your Dragon 2, still on previews it took £475,270 over the weekend, it has now taken £1.5 million before it's official release on Friday.

Another film doing this is Transformers: Age of Extinction which had previews from Saturday evening and took £s;4.7 million and would have been the top film, this will be added to the opening gross next week so the film WILL be number 1.

Highest new film of the week is Tammy which we all had high hopes for but in the end struggled to get a top 5 entry with £471,429 over the weekend.

The only other new film this week is The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared at 11.

Looking back

A Year ago Despicable Me was still a the top of the UK box office keeping Now You See Me from the top meaning it debuted at 2.

Five years ago Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs was the new top film which it did on it's debut week of release.

Ten years ago number one and highest new film was Shrek 2 which knocked Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban from the top.

Fifteen years ago The Mummy was still the top film in the UK while Sean Connery was the highest new entry at 2 with Entrapment.

Twenty yeas ago the original The Flintstones movie was the top film in the country for the month of July knocking Four Weddings and a Funeral from the top.

Twenty five years ago Batman was still the top film for the month of July but Indianan Jones and the Last Crusade and Licence to Kill were doing well.

The biggest of the weeks new releases hits the top of the box office with no current releases able to challenge it.

The 21 Jump Street sequel 22 Jump Street debuts at the top of the box office this week with a weekend take of around £4.8 million.

21 Jump Street was released in March 2012, a tougher time of year for a films release, it debuted at 2 taking £1.5 on it's debut going on to take nearly 10 million over 7 weeks. With better reviews this time around 22 should do better.

Jump Street removes last week top film Maleficent down to the runner up position although it still manages a £2 million weekend with a 10 day gross of £11 million.

Little else doing well on the box office this week, especially Grace of Monaco with enters the box office at 9 with just over £200,000 is takings, the one off D-Day concert did better from far less screens.

This time last year and despite the terrible reviews Will Smith and son debuted at the top with After Earth knocking The Hangover Part III to second place.

Five years ago the Terminator saga continued with Terminator Salvation taking over at the top on it's debut knocking Night at the Museum 2 down to second place.

Ten years ago Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban took over from The Day After Tomorrow at the top which fell to second place.

Fifteen years ago Notting Hill retained it's place at the top for a second week leaving Human Traffic to debut at 3 at the highest new film.

Twenty years ago Four Weddings and a Funeral was still the top film around with Beverly Hills Cop III and Bad Girls debuting well.

Twenty Five years ago Indianan Jones and the Last Crusade was still the top film in June with the Bond film Licence to Kill and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels debuting well.
