Middle Earths 4 week dominance of the Box Office ends this week with Les Misérables takes over at the top knocking The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey down to fourth.
Ang Lee's Life of Pi holds firm as the number 2 film and Gangster Squad is a new entry at 3.
The Tom Hooper directed film, based on the stage play musical, debuts at the top with a brilliant £8.1 million pound weekend gross. The highest debut for all involved except Anne Hathaway who scored a bigger opening weekend with last years The Dark Knight Rises.
Life of Pi continues to do well as the awards start to pile in and increases it's total gross to £21.9 million while Gangster Squad is new at 4 with an opening weekend of £2.1 million.
This time last year Spielberg was hitting number 1 with War Horse on it's debut weekend taking nearly £4 million and knocking The Iron Lady from the top.

The nominations for this years Academy Awards ceremony have been announced with Spielberg's Lincoln leading the way with 12 nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.
Ang Lee's Life of Pi is then closest to that with 11 nominations, also that film is up for Best Film and Best Director.
British Favorite Skyfall, the 50th anniversary Bond film, manages 5 nominations mainly in the music categories , Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Best Sond and Best Score and Cinematography.
There will be a section of this years ceremony that will celebrate the Bond franchise and appreciate 50 years of Bond success, something that is unique in cinema history.
The ceremony takes place this year on Sunday Feb 24th in Hollywood and is presented for the first time by Family Guy creator Seth Rogan.
For a full list of the nominations go the to Oscars website.
As if by coincidence the same day the Razzie nominations come out so do the BAFTA nominations. Speilberg's Lincoln leads the way with 10, but Ang Lee's Life of Pi and Tom Hooper's Les Miserable follow with 9 each.
Lincoln, which is not nationwide in the UK until January 25th, is Steven Speilbergs bio-pic of the life of President Abraham Lincoln and stars Daniel Day Lewis in the lead role, who is also nominated in the Actor category.
It's nice to see the Bond film Skyfall get recognised although it does miss out on best (overall) film category but does get a nod in the Special British Film category. More surprisingly Daniel Craig doesn't get an acting nod and director Sam Mendes somehow missed out on a directing nominations.
The ceremony takes place at the Royal opera house on Sunday 10th February, for more information and check out the BAFTA website.
