UK weekend box office top 5 breakdown 8th - 10th July 2022

The fourth film in the Thor series of movie from the grander Marvel Cinematic Universe which is once again directed by Taika Waititi as was Thor: Ragnarok.

The movie makes its debut at the top of this weeks box office with £12.2 Million which is lover than the last two Marvel movies, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home but in the same ballpark as the last Thor movie.

The road ahead looks good for the movie with no new competition until Bullet Train in early August, although with middle of the road reviews the current releases, especially Minions: The Rise of Gru could see its number 1 run cut short.

Giving way to Thor: Love and Thunder the Minions sequel drops to number 2 on its second weekend of release, at least for this weekend.

The movie takes £4.3 Million, a large 58% drop over its debut last weekend, this gives it a total gross of £18.4 Million.

This places the movie on the top 10 movies of 2022 at number 10.

Director Baz Luhrmann's bio-pic of the King of Rock 'N' Roll falls to number 3 this weekend with a gross of £1.3 Million, a 55% drop over last weekend, on its 3rd weekend of release.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £13.8 Million.

The Top Gun sequel movie continues to do amazingly well on the UK box office and this weekend slips just a single place on its 7th weekend of release with just over £1 Million, a 62% drop over last weeeknd.

The movie has now taken a eye popping £70 Million in its UK box office run and is by far the top movie of 2022.

As the Dino movie starts to end its UK box office run it drop to number 5 on the chart with £560,166 over the weekend, a large 69% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £31.7 Million after 5 weeks of release, it will end up the lowest grossing of the Jurassic World series of movies.

This weekend, Friday 19th July 2019, there are 3 new films released in the UK looking to hit the box office, but can it challenge Spider-Man: Far From Home for the top spot?

It stars Donald Glover who last starred in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) and Seth Rogen who last appeared in Long Shot (2019).

Check back on Monday to see where these films end up on the Weekend Box Office Chart.

On this weeks UK box office Disney brings its live action remake of Aladdin to the box office, directed by our very own Guy Ritchie, which scores a big number 1 debut, in a weekend with an all new top 3, this leaves Rocketman and The Secret Life Of Pets 2 to enter at 2 and 3.

Aladdin

The latest in the increasing line of live action remakes enters the UK box office, with ease, at the top.

The film starring Will Smith and Mena Massoud as the Genie and Aladdin takes over at the top with a £7 million debut.

This is by no means as good as 2017's Beauty And The Beast which has an opening weekend of £19 million but it is higher than this years Dumbo.

Rocketman

The Elton John fantasy bio-pic manages to take a fantastic £5.4 million on its debut weekend, but unfortunately released the same day as a Disney movie it only manages a number 2 debut.

The film Directed Dexter Fletcher and Starring Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell has wowed critics and if it repeats a similar course as Bohemian Rhapsody it will hand around a while and could still hit the top of the box office.

The Freddy Mercury film debuted to nearly £10 million and went on to take £55 million in the UK, I dont think this will repeat those figures.

The Secret Life of Pets 2

Third new film in the top three and again under normal weekend conditions this would have been the top film but a £3.5 million debut this week means it hits number 3.

Compared to the first movie in the series this is actually way lover with that film taking nearly £10 million on its debut, but with the school holidays just around the corner this could have a long life.

John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum

The Keanu Reeves action movie falls from the top to number 4 on its second weekend of release with £1.4 million boosting its total to £6.2 million.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu

Three weeks on and the Pikachu movie is at 5 with £1 million over the weekend, this gives the film a new total of £10 million.

Avengers: Endgame

Falling out of the top 5 fir the first time this week the Marvel movie has now taken £85.5 million in the UK over 5 weeks.

It is the 5th top movie of all time in the UK where it will probably remain, behind Avatar, Spectre, Skyfall and Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

Making an entry back into the top 15 after a time away the brick movie takes £43,254 on its 9th weekend which boosts its total to £18.6 million.

With the release of the fifth in the now long running Transformers series we were bound to get a new film at the top of the UK box office.

Transformers The Last Knight makes its way to the top of the Uk box office on its debut weekend of release with a gross of £4.6 million, a low for the series.

In fact the other 4 films have made between £8 and £11 million on their opening, it could not surprise me if this one struggles to make that during its entire run.

Wonder Woman spent three weeks at the top of the box office before this week falling to number 2, still a &poound;1.5 million weekend is not too bad.

The films total gross has not crossed the &poound;18 million mark and it should go past the £20 million before the end of its run.

Also new this week is Hampsted at number 6 and Tubelight at number 7 with half a million and £300,000+ respectively.

Longest running film this week is The Boss Baby with 12 weeks on the charts and highest total grossing is Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 which has now takes £40.7 million.

Historical chart

A year ago - The Secret Life of pets landed at the top, it knocked off The Conjuring 2 The Enfield Case which spent just a week at the top.

Five years ago - As odd as it seemed Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter made its debut at the top knocking off Prometheus which fell to 4.

Ten years ago - Staying at the top for a second weekend was 4: Rise of The Silver Surfer while the top new film was Captivity at number 4.

Fifteen years ago - Spider-Man stayed at the top of the box office while top new film was The Musketeer right down at number 8.

Twenty years ago - The Devils Own found its way to the top on its debut while The Fifth Element fell to number 3 after two weeks on top.

Twenty five years ago - spending a third week at the top was The Lawnmower Man, it kept The Lover at bay which made its debut at number 2.

As the film pushed itself over the billion mark at the global box office Fast and Furious 8 (The Fate of the Furious in America) hold the top spot for a third weekend.

Fast 8 drops nearly 50% of its taking from last week and this week manages just $19.4 million to bring its US total to $192.7 million.

Highest new film of the week is How To Be A Latin Lover which is new at number 2 with a good $12 million debut.

For a smaller independent film this is a great opening, it did play to a largely latin American audience which is to be expected.

Also new this week is Baahubali 2: The Conclusion which is new at 3 with $10 million and Emma Watson and Tom Hanks in The Circle which disappoints with a number 4 debut and $9.3 million.

Highest total grossing movie on the US box office this week is Beauty and The Beast which has now grosses nearly $500 million, it is also the longest running film with 7 weeks on the chart.
