Sequel movie My People, My Homeland and animated feature Legend Of Deification were so far ahead in the weekend takings not nothing else had a look in and the third place movie, Tenet, took a fraction over the same period.

Here is a quick look breakdown of the weeks top 15.

  • Highest debut - My People, My Homeland (@1)
  • Longest run - Onward (30 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Tenet ($307,100,000)

Here is a breakdown of the top 5 movies globally at the box office 2nd - 4th October 2020.

My People, My Homeland

The follow up to My People, My Country land on the Chinese box office at number 1 and hence lands on the global box office at the top with a weekend gross of $157.5 Million on its debut.

The movie directed by a whole host of directors and if it does as well at the previous movie could take near to $500 Million.

Legend of Deification

Called Jiang Ziya this animated fantasy tale hit the number 2 spot in China on its release being narrowly beaten by My People, My Country, but still the Teng Cheng and Li Wei directed movie took $151.7 Million to debut second globally.

Tenet

Falling to number 3 this weekend as the Christopher Nolan movie starts to slow down across the globe, this weekend it took $14.2 Million.

This pushes the movies total gross after 6 weeks to $307.1 Million.

The New Mutants

Disneys mutant movie goes back into the top 5 this weekend taking $1.95 Million at number 4.

This pushes the movies total global gross to $42.1 Million after 7 weeks of release.

Hocus Pocus

The Halloween favourite gets a re-release in America, where it debuted at number 2, and makes its global debut at number 5 with $1.95 Million, 27 years after the movie first debuted.

As the hunger for Tenet starts to slow down across the globe it remains at the top of the global box office with a narrow lead over the Chinese movie The Eight Hundred which sits at 2.

With a reflection on how movie studios are once again concerned about the release of their films waiting for an audience there is no new films on the top end of the global box office with the highest debut Infidel at 7 with $1.3 Million.

World box office quickview

  • Number 1 - Tenet
  • Highest debut - Infidel
  • Longest run - Onward (28 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - The Eight Hundred ($425,000,000)

Here is a rundown of the global top 5 movies.

Tenet

The buzz is starting to slow down now but Warner Bros. is seeing the movies box office run as a long term thing rather than short term, this weekend the film took $25.4 Million.

The film has now taken $217.2 Million worldwide after 4 weeks of release.

The Eight Hundred

The Chinese movie that has taken nearly half a billion dollars in its native alone has started to get a release across the rest of the world and this week takes $17.7 Million.

Altohugh its not expected the movie will be as successful outside of China it will be one of the top films of the year (because of COVID-19) and so far had a total global gross of $425 Million.

Mulan

With the Disney movie going direct to VOD in much of the world the box office taking have been severely effected, altohugh tepid reviews wont have helped as the movie takes $10.9 Million this week largely from China.

This pushes the movies total global gross to $57 Million, Disney have not given and VOD data for America or Europe so its hard to compare.

In comparison over the last few years the Disney live action remakes have largely grossed over a Billion collars worldwide.

After We Collided

This sleeper hit from director Roger Kumble is at number 4 this weekend with a weekend gross of $3.8 Million giving the movie a $28.5 Million total after 4 weeks of release.

The New Mutants

At number 5 is the Disney mutant movie which has been given such a hard time, taking $3.5 million over the weekend it has a $35 million total after 4 weeks.

Although not really a fair comparison the last X-Men movie X-Men: Dark Phoenix took $252.4 Million worldwide!

After a phenomenal run at the global box office Avengers: Endgame is starting to show signs of slowing down, although it remains at the top of this weeks global box office despite a strong showing from new movie Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.

Avengers: Endgame

The mighty Marvel film has had the most successful run on the global box office ever and broken every box office record along the way, this week it manges another $16 million from 56 countries on its third week of release.

This brings the films total global gross to $2.48 Billion and it is easily the second highest grossing film of all time and its 'only' $300 million behind Avatars all time record of $2.78 Billion.

Despite the slow down the film is still likely to beat Avatar and become the top grossing film of all time - next week will be a telling time to see how much the film slows when box office levels become 'normal'.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu

The Nintendo video game franchise has been entertaining kids in cartoon form since 2000, but now, maybe inspired by Disney, the Pocket Monsters make their way to the real world in the first live action film in the franchise.

Taking $161 million for the weekend from 63 countries on its debut the film wasn't too far behind Avengers: Endgame.

The Hustle

Also new this week is this retelling/remake starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson and despite bad reviews takes $27.2 million on its global debut from 37 countries.

Capernaum

Two weeks in and the Nadine Labaki directed movie is at 4 taking $8.3 million from 15 countries pushing its global total to $56.3 million.

Long Shot

Despite the good reviews the Jonathan Levine directed comedy falls to 5 this week with $7.6 million from 16 countries taking it total gross $25.8 million after 2 weeks.

Following suit with the rest of the globe The Nun tops the Uk box office this weekend and as part of the Conjuring series of films this is the second highest debut of the series.

The Nun doesn't quite reach debut of The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Case which took £4.6 on its debut but the £4 million opening isn't that far away.

With Halloween 6 weeks away the film could stick around for a few weeks but horror films like this do have a habit of upfront box office success, the bad reviews wont help much either!

Christopher Robin surrenders the top spot after 3 weeks at the top with a weekend gross of nearly £900,000 which brings the films total gross to £12 million after 4 weeks.

After a slow start to its box office run BlackKKlansman stays at number 3 this week with just under £800,000, this brings the films total gross after 3 weeks to £4.5 million making one of director Spike Lee's top films in the UK.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again has started to slow down now and this week falls to 4 with just over £700,000.

This brings the films total gross to £63.2 million and although a fantastic total gross for a sequel film is will now struggle to beat the total gross of the original Mamma Mia! and will likely not beat Avengers Infinity War as the top film of the year (so far).

Finally in the top 5 is The Meg which has far outstripped expectation and this weeks take just over £600,00 for a total of £15 million.
