US weekend box office top 5 breakdown 12th - 14th August 2022

Remaining at the top of the US box office for a second weekend is the Brad Pitt starring movie about the Japanese high speed train which take $13.4 Million, a large 55% drop.

The movie has taken a total US gross of $54.4 Million during its 2 weeks of release.

The movie of the summer is the sequel to the 1986 smash hit Top Gun and this weekend, on its 12th weekend of release, it climbs back to number 2 on the box office.

Part of he reason for this is the current lack of big new releases at the box office, this has given the sequel movie a chance to climbs back up from number 6.

The movie takes $7 Million this weekend, a small but significant 1% increase from last weekend which gives it a total US gross of $673.7 Million.

The movie is by far the top movie in the US of 2022 and as it keep climbing up the chart of top all time movies in the US it is currently number 7.

The animated DC Universe based movie from Warner Bros. falls to number 3 this weekend with $7 Million, a 37% drop over last weekend.

The movie has taken $58.1 Million over a 3 weekend release period.

The fourth in the Thor series of movies falls to number 4 this weekend with $5.3 Million, a 30% drop over last weekend.

After a 6 week run the movie has taken $325.4 Million and is the 6th top movie of 2022.

The lastest Jordan Peele directed movie falls to number 5 this weekend with $5.3 Million, a 37% drop over last weekend, giving the movie a total US gross of $107 Million.

This will be the lowest grossing movie from the celebrated director, but its good to see the movie break the $100 Million mark at the US box office.

Highest debut this weekend comes in at number 10 with the Scott Mann directed movie about 2 climbers who get stuck on top of a very tall mast.

The movie takes $2.5 Million on its debut which is a career high for the director.

Taking over at the top of the UK box office this weekend is the action comedy movie Bullet Train, set on, as the name suggest, the famous Bullet Train in Japan.

Also new this weekend is the event movie Westlife: Live From Wembley Stadium which makes its debut at number 8 with £468,214 and Sita Ramam which is new at 14 with £35,403.

Top Gun Maverick spends its firs weekend outside the top 5 this week, but the movie which has been on the chart for 11 weeks takes £609,409 for a total of £77.5 Million.

Highest new movie of the weekend

Hitting the top on its debut weekend is the new action comedy from director David Leitch which stars Brad Pitt and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Taking a debut weekend gross of £2.8 Million, opening on Thursday, it easily hits the number one spot.

In comparison it it is far lower than the directors previous movie, Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw which opened to over £6 Million but its in the same ball park as Brad Pitt's last movie Ad Astra.

After making its debut at the top of the UK box office last weekend the DC Universe based animated feature drop to number 2 on its second weekend of release.

A weekend gross of £1.2 Million is a 55% drop over last weekend and gives the movie a total of £6.2 Million.

Falling to number 3 this weekend is the animated sequel from the Despicable Me universe which takes £1.1 Million, a 45% drop.

This gives the movie a total gross of £36.7 Million after 6 weeks of release and is the 5th top movie of 2022.

In comparison the the first Minions movie at 6 weeks in its run this is lower than the £40 Million that film made in 2015.

The fourquel movie in the Thor series of MCU movies falls to number 4 this weekend with £938,257, a 51% drop over its gross last weekend.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £33.2 Million over its 5 weeks of release and is the 7th top movie of 2022.

The movie is tracking just ahead of Thor: Ragnarok which had taken £29 Million 5 weeks into its run.

Director Baz Luhrmann bio-pic to the King of Rock and Roll has been consistently on the top 5 now for 7 weeks and takes £737,844 this weekend, a 33% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross of £22.6 Million in the UK and is the directors highest grossing movie.

Warner Bros. release their super-hero inspired movie DC League of Super-Pets this weekend to capitalise on the Summer Holidays and score a number 1 hit at the UK box office.

Also hitting the box office this weekend is Ek Villain Returns at number 12 with £128,493, Olivia Coleman in Joyride~2022 at number 14 with £64,824 and Fire of Love at 15 with £59,803.

Highest new movie of the weekend

Making its debut at the top of the UK box office this weekend is a movie inspired by the characters in the DC Universe of Super-heroes and their Super-Pets!

The movie stars the voise talents of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Heart and it takes £2.6 Million on its debut weekend.

Falling to number 2 this weekend after taking the top spot for a second time is the Minions sequel movie which on its 5th weekend of release takes £1.9 Million, a 35% drop.

The movie has now taken a total of £33.5 Million in the UK which is just behind the original movie which had taken £37 Million in 2015.

The movie is also the 6th biggest film of 2022 to date.

The latest in the MCU movies falls to number 3 this weekend with £1,9 Million, a 37% drop over last weekend.

The fourth in the Thor series has now taken £30 Million at the UK box office after 4 weeks of release, it is currently ahead of 2017's Thor: Ragnarok which had taken £28 Million at this stage in its run.

The movie is currently the 7th top movie of 2022.

The Elvis Presley bio-pic from director Baz Luhrmann remains at number 4 this weekend with £1.1 Million on its 6th weekend, a very slim 11% drop over last week.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £20.8 Million making it the directors top grossing movie in the UK.

The incredible run of the Top Gun sequel has been unprecedented for a movie that was release over 30 years after the original, and it has found a new generation of fans and the studio must be looking at doing another movie, perhaps without Tom Cruise!

The movie has this weekend taken £981,129, a very slim 10% drop over last weekend which takes the movies total in the UK to £76 Million.

It is the top grossing movie of 2022, where it might remain if Avatar: Way of the Water doesn't spoil the party in December.

The movie is also now the 9th top grossing movie ever in the UK having taken over the 2019 version of The LIon King~2019 with an eye to go even higher on the list.

Comparing it to the original movie from 1986 is hard considering the gap in releases, but if adjust for inflation the £1.88 average price of a ticket in 1986 then the original would have taken about £49 Million at this stage in its run.

With only one new release this weekend in the shape of Where the Crawdads Sing which made its debut at number 3 it gave Minions: The Rise of Gru a chance to go back to the top of the UK box office.

Also new this weekend is Prima Facie: NT Live 2022 which took £447,014 over the weekend to land at 6 but has taken £1.8 Million since it launched in cinemas on Thursday.

Shamshera lands at number 11 this weekend with £47,902 and finally Malayankunju is at 14 with £26,321.

UK weekend box office top 5 breakdown 22nd - 24th July 2022

After 4 weeks of release the sequel movie to Minions goes back to the top of the UK box office with a gross of £3.08 Million, an incredible 14% increase over last weekend when the temperature in the country was way above normal.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £26.4 Million after 4 weeks of release, compared to Minions this is about £4 Million lower and the same point in its run.

The movie is the 6th highest grossing of 2022 in the UK.

After a couple of weeks at the top of the UK box office the sequel movie to Thor: Ragnarok falls into the runner up spot with £3.06 Million, a 25% drop over last weekend.

It was a tight fought battle between the top 2 films and at the end of the weekend there was £33,575 between them.

The Thor sequel now has a total UK gross of £26.4 Million after 3 weeks of release and is the 9th top movie of 2022 in the UK.

The sequel movie is running about £600,000 ahead of its predecessor.

Highest new movie of the weekend lands at number 3 this week in the shape of the adaptation of Delia Owens's murder mystery novel from 2018.

The movie takes £1.3 Million on its debut weekend in the UK.

The Elvis Presley bio-pic falls to number 4 this weekend, its 5th with a gross of £1.2 Million, a 19% increase over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £18.4 Million after 5 weeks of release and is not the top gross movie from Baz Luhrmann having beaten the £18 Million of Moulin Rouge from 2001.

Finally on the top 5 is the movie which just keeps going from strength to strength as the Top Gun sequel falls to number 5 on its 9th weekend of release with £1.09 Million, an amazing 26% increase from last weekend.

This gives the movie an incredible £74.1 Million total gross which makes it the top grossing movie of 2022 in the UK.

The movie is doing far better than its 1986 predecessor which adjusted for inflation would have taken about £48.7 Million at the point in its box office run.

Finally the movie has broken into the top 10 movies of all time in the UK, at number 10 replacing Toy Story 3.

Thor: Love and Thunder unsurprisingly stays at the top of the North American box office on its second weekend of release dropping by 68% from its debut last weekend.

Spending a second weekend at the top of the US box office is the latest in the Marvel movies produced and released by Disney.

The fourth Thor movie takes $46 Million this weekend which is 68% down from the previous weekends gross.

This gives the movie a total US gross of $233 Million which makes the movie the 6th top film of 2022.

Remaining at number 2 for a second weekend is the sequel movie to Minions which takes $26 Million in its third weekend of release, a resonable 44% drop.
